Job Title: AI/ML Software Engineering Intern

We're excited to launch our 2026 Summer Internship search and are looking for AI/ML-focused Software Engineering Interns to join our team.
We're looking for driven, curious engineers eager to take on real challenges and make an impact from day one. At Censys, we want interns who take initiative, thrive in fast-moving environments and are excited about cybersecurity. In this internship, you'll work on real-world projects that contribute directly to our product and roadmap. This is a unique opportunity to build, learn, and innovate alongside experienced engineers in a cutting-edge cybersecurity company. With AI/ML as the core focus of our internship program this year, you'll work on projects that explore machine learning, automation, and generative AI to improve security insights and enhance user experience.
Here's a glimpse into some of the types of things you'll work on this summer:
Enhance data visualization using AI/ML to recommend the most relevant chart types based on user data
Improve search experiences by integrating AI-driven suggestions and contextual understanding
Leverage AI for intelligent recommendations, such as surfacing relevant queries or insights within datasets
Automate report generation with AI-powered summaries, visualizations, and key takeaways
Develop explainability tools to help users understand and interpret machine learning models through intuitive visualizations
Pitch and explore your own AI-driven ideas--we encourage innovation!
Skills You Might Have
Python Programming (with AI/ML Libraries)/strong grasp of Python fundamentals
Experience with libraries such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Scikit-Learn, Pandas, NumPy
Ability to write clean, modular code for data processing and model development
Machine Learning fundamentals (understanding of supervised and unsupervised learning, feature engineering, and evaluation metrics)
Exposure to NLP or generative AI techniques (LLMs, embeddings, transformers) since projects involve contextual search, recommendations, and AI-powered summarization
Data Handling & Visualization (experience working with large datasets (cleaning, normalizing, sampling, querying)
Familiarity with visualization tools like Matplotlib, Seaborn, Plotly, or Vega-Lite
Comfort in building dashboards or tools that explain ML results (model interpretability/explainability)
Software Engineering Practices (experience with Git/GitHub, unit testing, and code reviews)
Comfort with APIs and microservices to integrate AI/ML features into production systems
Knowledge of containerization (Docker) or cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure) is a plus
Bonus: Cybersecurity Interest & Domain Awareness (while not required, familiarity with networking concepts, security data, or anomaly detection can help contextualize your AI/ML work with us)
