Job Specifications
We are looking for an Intermediate Java Developer for a 6 months contract with high possibility of extension. Role is hybrid with 2 days a week on site in Downtown Calgary.
As a key contributor, you will design and build robust integrations that connect legacy and modern systems, enabling seamless data exchange and supporting mission-critical operations.
Key Responsibilities
Design, build, and maintain system integrations across multiple platforms and services.
Develop new functionality and enhance existing systems to support evolving business needs.
Ensure code quality through unit testing, code reviews, and adherence to development best practices.
Work closely with solution architects and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
Perform in-depth technical analysis and assist in solution planning and design.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including developers, QA, infrastructure, and vendor partners to ensure timely and successful project delivery.
Participate in deployment activities including implementation planning, disaster recovery preparation, and post-deployment support.
Contribute to team knowledge sharing and provide mentorship to junior team members.
Qualifications
Diploma or degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
3-5 years of hands-on experience in software development and system integration.
Strong development skills with LoopBack, Spring Boot, and advanced Java EE.
Solid understanding of RESTful (Swagger/OpenAPI) and SOAP service development.
Practical experience with Spring Security, OAuth2, and JWT for secure service integration.
Proficient in containerization and orchestration using Docker, Kubernetes, and Red Hat OpenShift.
Skilled in writing SQL and PL/SQL for MySQL or IBM DB2, including stored procedures, functions, and triggers.
Comfortable working in Agile and DevOps environments.
Familiar with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Bitbucket, JIRA, and Confluence.
Able to troubleshoot and monitor applications using tools like Splunk or DataDog.
Experience with messaging systems such as RabbitMQ, Apache Kafka, or Amazon SQS.
Exposure to cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or IBM Cloud/APIC.
Nice to Have
Experience in the insurance industry, particularly with policy or pricing systems.
Guidewire certifications (Foundational, Associate, Specialist) are a strong asset.
Familiarity with SaaS architecture and integration patterns.
