About AI Grid
AI Grid is an innovation-led technology company building a cutting-edge predictive analytics platform. As we enter our scale-up phase, we're hiring a backend developer on a fixed-term contract with a strong view to a permanent role. You'll work on production systems in a fast-paced, AI-driven environment and make a visible impact from day one.
Role overview
We're looking for a backend developer with strong experience in C++ and Python to build and maintain services for our cloud SaaS platform. AWS experience is an advantage. You'll collaborate closely with our on-site engineering team and our offshore development team--owning features on an existing project and picking up additional backend work to improve reliability and performance. This role is fully on-site at our Hungerford office.
What you'll do
Design, build and operate backend services and data APIs in C++ and Python for our cloud SaaS platform.
Own features end-to-end: requirements - design - implementation - tests - deployment - monitoring.
Optimise performance (latency, throughput, memory), troubleshoot production issues and write clear, maintainable code.
Integrate with data stores and messaging (e.g., SQL/NoSQL, object storage, queues/streams such as Kafka/Kinesis).
Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, containerisation (Docker) and infrastructure on AWS (e.g., ECS/EKS/Lambda, S3).
Add observability (structured logs, metrics, traces), set sensible SLOs and improve reliability over time.
Work day-to-day with our offshore developers: share clear specs, review PRs, pair on tricky issues and manage smooth handovers across time zones.
Produce concise technical documentation and follow secure-by-default practices.
What you'll bring
Solid backend engineering experience with C++ (14/17+) and Python 3 in production on Linux.
Strong grasp of APIs (REST/gRPC), concurrency, networking, profiling and performance tuning.
Practical knowledge of AWS, CI/CD (GitHub/GitLab/Bitbucket) and automated testing (unit/integration).
Comfortable with databases (SQL) and at least one of NoSQL/Redis, object storage, or event streaming.
Proven experience collaborating with offshore/remote teams, excellent written communication and comfort with asynchronous workflows.
Clear communication, proactive ownership and a bias for simple, robust solutions.
Happy to work fully on-site in Hungerford and thrive in a fast-moving, hands-on environment.
Nice to have
FastAPI/Flask; Protobuf/gRPC; build systems (CMake/Bazel/Conan).
Kubernetes/Helm, Terraform, Kafka/Kinesis, feature flags, blue/green or canary deploys.
Experience with data/ML workflows (feature stores, model serving) or regulated/data-sensitive domains.
Familiarity with Jira/Confluence and leading stand-ups/handovers across time zones.
Why AI Grid?
Real ownership and visible impact on a next-generation predictive analytics platform.
Fixed-term contract with a strong path to permanent for high performers.
Modern tooling, supportive peers and the chance to shape our architecture as we scale.
To apply, please send your CV and a brief note and contact, including your earliest start date and salary expectations.
