Java Engineer

Title: Senior Engineer - Total Fund Management Financing

Duration: 6 months (Contract)

Location: Downtown Toronto, ON (4 day/week onsite)

Challenges with the Role:

Need someone truly hands-on and production-ready
Current team doesn't have capacity to train on AWS or Terraform - candidate must be ramped-up and ready
Finding the right Java + AWS mix has been difficult
Some flexibility for candidates stronger in AWS but less in Azure

What They Will Accomplish (High-Level):

Design and maintain scalable applications in a cloud-based environment (primarily AWS).
Lead and participate in architecture design and analysis for complex systems.
Support modernization of public markets technology systems.
Ensure high-quality, performant, and maintainable codebases.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

Develop Java-based applications using AWS services.
Deploy infrastructure using Terraform.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams on solutioning and implementation.
Conduct code reviews and promote engineering best practices.
Stay current with tech trends and contribute to continuous improvement.

Must-Haves:

Strong, hands-on experience with Java (Spring Boot, Core Java, Microservices) - Java skill level 8/10
AWS expertise (must be very hands-on) - ~30% AWS environment (though 70% of current stack is Azure)
Must know how to deploy Terraform apps
Must have experience with EKS
Software design and system analysis experience
Solid understanding of multithreading concepts
Excellent problem-solving and communication skills

Plusses / Nice-to-Haves:

Python skills - currently 3-4/10 expected, but candidate must be open to learning; not sure how much Python will be used yet
Capital Markets experience - understanding basic instruments like bonds, options, futures, etc.
Familiarity with additional AWS services: Lambda, SQS, Argo CD
