Job Title: Java Backend Engineer (API & Messaging Queues)

Location: Toronto, CA-Hybrid (1 day onsite)

Experience: 8+ Years

About the Role:

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our client in Toronto (Hybrid). In this role, you will design, develop, and maintain Java-based backend services, including RESTful APIs and integrations with messaging systems like Kafka, ActiveMQ, or RabbitMQ. You'll work across the full development lifecycle--development, testing, build, and deployment--and collaborate with multiple stakeholders in an Agile environment to migrate legacy APIs to modern stacks and deliver new features. Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently are essential.

Requirements:

Experience: BS/MS in Computer Science or Engineering with 8+ years in Java, Spring Boot, and RESTful API development.
Messaging Queues: Hands-on experience with messaging systems (Kafka, ActiveMQ, RabbitMQ).
Full Development Lifecycle: Skilled in end-to-end development, testing, build, and deployment.
Agile Environment: Ability to work independently in Agile teams with strong communication skills.

Project Overview:

Understand existing legacy APIs and migrate them to modern stacks, including adding new features as required.
