A leading professional services business is hiring a Head of Software to take full ownership of its software development function. This is a senior role that combines strategic direction with technical oversight, where you'll shape the roadmap, build a high-performing team, and remain close enough to the codebase to ensure technical excellence.
Role: Head of Software
Salary: PS85,000 - PS100,000 per annum
Location: Guildford - 5 days per week onsite
What you'll be doing:
Lead the software function, setting strategy, vision, and standards for development across the business
Oversee design and delivery of applications built with .NET Core, C#, SQL, Azure, and Angular
Stay hands-on enough to guide architectural decisions, solve complex technical problems, and support delivery where needed
Define and implement best practice in coding standards, testing, CI/CD, and agile delivery
Build, mentor, and scale a high-performing engineering team with a strong technical culture
Partner with senior stakeholders to align software delivery with business goals
Ensure platforms are scalable, secure, and capable of supporting future growth
What you'll need:
Proven experience leading software teams at Head of Software, Head of Engineering, or equivalent level
Strong technical background with .NET Core, C#, SQL, Azure, and Angular
Ability to balance strategy and hands-on delivery, maintaining credibility with engineering teams
Track record of building and scaling development teams while introducing structure and process
Excellent communication and leadership skills, comfortable engaging with senior stakeholders
