An Automation Specialist Intern supports the design, programming, and implementation of industrial automation systems to improve process efficiency, reliability, and safety. This role offers hands-on experience with PLC/DCS systems, control logic, and SCADA/HMI development, while working alongside senior automation engineers.
Responsibilities
Assist in the programming, testing, and troubleshooting of PLCs, DCS, and SCADA systems.
Support reviewing of control system documentation, including I/O lists, P&IDs and Control Narratives
Participate in factory and site acceptance testing (FAT/SAT).
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support project delivery and commissioning.
Skills & Tools Gained
Programming: Ladder Logic, Function Block, Structured Text
Platforms: Allen-Bradley (Rockwell), Siemens, DeltaV, and Honeywell
Visualization: HMI/SCADA and DeltaV Live
Protocols: Modbus, Profibus, OPC, Ethernet/IP
Qualifications
Recent Canadian Institute graduate/Final year student in Electrical, Instrumentation, or Chemical Engineering.
Basic understanding of PLC/DCS programming, instrumentation, and process control.
Familiarity with one or more platforms (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, DeltaV, Schneider).
Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Excel, or related engineering tools is an asset.
Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
Eagerness to learn and contribute in a fast-paced, technical environment.
