Summary

The Federal Reserve Board (Board) provides students opportunities for career success. The Board's Internship program is designed to provide valuable work experience for undergraduate and graduate students considering careers including, but not limited to, economics, finance and accounting, information systems, and data analysis. The Board believes that by combining academic endeavors with project-related work experience, qualified and capable college students can gain the practical knowledge need in a competitive global job market. Internships are paid positions with salaries commensurate with credit hours; internships may be in-person, remote or hybrid, depending on the needs of the team. Employment in the Board's internship program is granted to U.S. citizens. Applicants must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited university and returning to continue studies after the internship. Interns receive a syllabus or research project plan outlining their projects and goals for the internship. Interns are assigned a supervisor or mentor to guide them through their internship, and regular check-in meetings with their manager to manage performance expectations and assist with learning goals. Interns have access to a wide range of training programs and events for professional development purposes.

Position Requirements

The summer intern will work within the Division of Financial Management (DFM) supporting the Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) and the Strategic Planning Office (SPO) staff. Some of the duties will consist of the following:

Support the Performance Report process by reviewing/editing the report and collaborating with FP&A teammates to incorporate budget performance graphics.
Support the Operating Plan process by:
providing analytic assessments of operating plans submitted by divisions.
incorporating budget performance graphics and reviewing Service Line Summaries for brevity and clarity.
Support the development of the monthly FP&A/SPO team meeting agenda.
Support an ad hoc FP&A and SPO projects dependent on analysis requested at the time.

Strategic Planning Office

Serve as backup on DFM-related reporting, including being trained on the DFM quarterly scorecard.
Assist with the DFM Year-End Review reporting responsibilities.
Support staff on technical projects, including supporting the transition of the DFM SharePoint site.
Support the annual review of the IRB verification/website updates.

Financial Planning & Analysis

Assist with documenting managing budget and forecast development and reporting on budget performance.
Support the financial analysis of the Board budget and forecasting.

Suggested Major/Minor: Finance, Business, Accounting, Information Systems, Economics, Management or a related major.

Required skills and knowledge: Financial analysis, communication (business writing), research skills and Microsoft Suite; the selected intern should have good organization and research skills in addition to excellent customer service.

Required Documents: Resume; an unofficial transcript may be requested.

US Citizenship is required. Applicants must be current students, graduating from their program August 2026 or later. Proof of enrollment will be required.
