A Developer Experience (DX) Engineer focuses on optimizing the experience of software developers within an organization. They improve the tools, processes, and environments developers use, aiming to increase efficiency, effectiveness, and satisfaction. This role is crucial for fostering a positive and productive development environment, ultimately contributing to better software products and a more engaged development team. Success in this role requires deep coding expertise, strong problem-solving skills, and a keen understanding of developer needs.

You will report to a studio Development Director.

As a DX Engineer at Maxis, you will

Ensure a high-quality developer experience by designing, implementing, and maintaining development tools and environments.
Advocate for developer-centric solutions within the DevOps ecosystem.
Work with pre-existing C# and Python codebases for various tools that bring automation into the game team's workflows
Collaborate with the development teams and use industry-standard CI/CD solutions to build pipelines that automate common operational tasks
Apply software engineering best practices across the development lifecycle, including agile methodologies, coding standards, code reviews, source management, build processes, testing, and operations
Work towards operational excellence by identifying opportunities to automate away manual processes.
Partner with the development team and technical director to understand team requirements, evaluate options, develop roadmaps and ensure needs are addressed in a complex, multi-partner environment
Provide critical support when changes are integrated across the game team's development branches
Evaluate and adopt technologies that improve the team efficiency and platform capabilities
Work with an internal Perforce team to implement best practices, support server upgrades, and optimize P4 usage
Analyze incidents in a postmortem process to ensure preventative measures

Qualifications

Bachelor/Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field.
5+ years of experience as a Software engineer.
Experience using Perforce or Git-based workflows for code management
Experience with Python, C#, or C++
Understand software configuration management and release management.
Previous experience work with CI/CD frameworks (such as Jenkins) is a plus
Experience working with ticketing systems such as JIRA.
Experience creating and maintaining technical documentation for internal and external use.
Passion for automation and workflow efficiency.

Compensation And Benefits

The ranges listed below are what EA in good faith expects to pay applicants for this role in these locations at the time of this posting. If you reside in a different location, a recruiter will advise on the applicable range and benefits. Pay offered will be determined based on a number of relevant business and candidate factors (e.g. education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, or business needs).

PAY RANGES

British Columbia (depending on location e.g. Vancouver vs. Victoria) *$119,600 - $167,300 CAD

In British Columbia, we offer a package of benefits including vacation (3 weeks per year to start), 10 days per year of sick time, paid top-up to EI/QPIP benefits up to 100% of base salary when you welcome a new child (12 weeks for maternity, and 4 weeks for parental/adoption leave), extended health/dental/vision coverage, life insurance, disability insurance, retirement plan to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.
