We bring the strength of more than 100 years of experience and renowned engineering expertise to meet the needs of today's mission and stay ahead of tomorrow's threat. Our team solves tough, meaningful problems that create a safer, more secure world.
The Effector RF Products Team at Raytheon is seeking a talented Principal Engineer to join our team in Tucson, AZ. The candidate will be working on a small program team that provides unique RF services and capabilities to our customer. We are developing Digital Signal Processing (DSP) solutions that add new capabilities to existing RF hardware and will soon begin a hardware refresh effort utilizing modern RF transceiver and DSP architectures. As this is a small program team, the ideal candidate will be experienced in both RF systems and RF signal processing design and analysis.
The candidate will be responsible for contributing to the architecture, analysis, design, and implementation of RF subsystems, sensors, and Embedded signal processing algorithms within a complex emerging missile product. The selected candidate will be expected to provide technical expertise, lead small teams, and work with the Engineering organization to establish technology roadmaps, enable modernization, and contribute to general innovation. In addition, the candidate will interface with government personnel and program leadership on a regular basis. The candidate will be responsible for providing expertise, leadership, and subject matter support to RF projects and team members.
This position is an onsite role, located in Tucson, AZ.
What You Will Do
Specify, design, and test advanced RF sensors, subsystems, and Embedded signal processing algorithms across frequencies from MHz through millimeter-wave.
Decompose system-level requirements into detailed RF component and algorithm requirements.
Measure RF components/sensors/subsystems, including performance in chamber and range environments.
Perform modeling and analysis of link budgets, RF cascades, signal processing chains, antenna patterns, phase noise, receiver sensitivity, transmitter power, spurious signals, modulation, isolation, and ADC characteristics.
Utilize statistical techniques such as Monte Carlo simulation to perform sensitivity analyses and execute design trades.
Support software and configurable logic teams with implementation and maturation of signal processing algorithms in tactical hardware.
Support simulation team with implementation and integration of RF HW models into system performance simulation.
Support production team with troubleshooting activities, assessing impact of non-compliant HW on system performance, and requirements re-allocation.

Bachelor of Science degree in Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM)
A minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field and a minimum of 6 years of experience that includes the following:
Design, integration, and/or test of RF sensors, subsystems, and/or signal processing algorithms
Qualifications We Prefer
Knowledge of RF technologies, including circuit card assemblies (CCAs), waveguides, planar/printed antennas, RF modules, and/or monolithic microwave integrated circuits (MMICs).
Experience performing Link Budget and Radar Range Equation analyses.
Experience in design and analysis of signal processing chains including digital receivers, digital filters, Fourier analysis, matched filters, modulation/demodulation, correlators, signal and noise modeling.
Understanding of antenna patterns and RF measurements with antennas and electronics.
Experience in concepts such as phase noise, mixer conversion spurs, automatic gain control (AGC), sensitivity, intermodulation distortion (IMD), bit error rate, instantaneous bandwidth, adjacent channel interference, and ADC measurements/calculations (Nyquist and SFDR).
Familiarity with equipment such as Spectrum Analyzers, Network Analyzers, Signal Generators, and Arbitrary Waveform Generators (ARB Generators).
Understanding of electromagnetic interference (EMI) and electromagnetic vulnerability (EMV) along with mitigation strategies in RF systems.
Excellent written communication and oral presentation skills.
