We operate a hybrid working model, with an expectation that staff spend 20% of their time in the office- typically one day per week or equivalent to 20% of the month.

We're now looking for an Information Rights and Correspondence Officer to join us and help ensure we remain transparent, responsive and legally compliant in how we handle public information requests.

Ofgem is Great Britain's independent energy regulator. We're at the forefront of change across the energy sector, driving towards Net Zero whilst protecting energy consumers, especially vulnerable people.

We're offering a 12-month fixed-term opportunity where you'll play a vital role in maintaining open, accurate and timely communication with the public and elected representatives. This is an exciting opportunity to be at the centre of our engagement with Freedom of Information (FOI), Environmental Information Regulations (EIR) and Subject Access Requests (SAR), helping us to deliver on our legal and ethical commitments.

You'll work within a collaborative and flexible team where variety is guaranteed. Every day will bring the chance to contribute to a fast-moving environment where you can put your skills and expertise to use in everything from supporting correspondence and producing communications materials to responding to requests for information and training our teams on compliance issues.

Job description

We're looking for someone with excellent written and verbal communication and proofreading skills, who can work with pace and accuracy and identify compelling angles to engage external audiences. You'll bring sound judgement, an understanding of how information rights legislation applies in practice, and the ability to manage competing demands with professionalism.

Person specification

Essential:

Can demonstrate an awareness of the information rights Acts and their requirements in the context of our organisation. (LEAD)
Able to demonstrate excellent proofreading skills and the ability to identify compelling angles for external audiences. (LEAD)
Proven experience in quickly understanding complex subject matter and conveying it effectively in both written and verbal formats to a range of stakeholders at all levels.
Excellent interpersonal skills to develop and nurture contacts across all teams.
Self-starter with experience of prioritising a varied and complex workload, to ensure competing demands and unpredictable deadlines are met.

Desirable:

Solid experience of working with information rights requests, including applying exemptions.
