Enterprise IT Architect (Freelance) - 14 Months - Brussels Belgium

At RELYzIT Talent, we don’t recruit — we build. We unite the top 2% of builders — engineers, architects, creators — into a movement across Europe and the GCC. Vetted through our VECTOR7™ Signal Stack, you’re not just hired, you’re chosen. This is more than work. This is where builders build the future.

About the Role

We are seeking an Enterprise IT Architect (Freelance) to join our client’s strategic transformation journey in Brussels. This is a 14-month, full-time freelance engagement, designed for a builder who thrives on shaping enterprise-scale IT landscapes and driving impactful change. You’ll be at the heart of a mission to architect, consolidate, and future-proof critical applications that underpin essential public services.

Why This Role Matters

This role is pivotal in delivering a unified, high-quality application architecture that supports our client’s strategic roadmap. Your expertise will ensure the reliability, usability, and sustainability of core IT systems, directly influencing the efficiency and effectiveness of services that impact millions. The stakes are high: you’ll be guiding architectural governance, enabling digital transformation, and setting the standard for excellence across the organization.

What You’ll Be Doing

Lead the design and consolidation of an integrated application architecture for enterprise-wide projects.
Identify, structure, and document applications, components, and functions supporting transversal business processes.
Develop and maintain a comprehensive product catalog and logical application landscape, mapping interdependencies.
Continuously update architectural deliverables to ensure alignment with evolving business and IT needs.
Shape, optimize, and safeguard both intermediate and target architectures at project and enterprise levels.
Translate strategic objectives into actionable target architectures in close collaboration with business and IT stakeholders.
Support strategic decision-making through impact analysis, scenario planning, and clear, actionable insights.
Contribute to business cases (e.g., Buy vs. Build), RFPs, master plans, and proof-of-concept initiatives.
Develop transformation roadmaps, identifying architectural dependencies, risks, and priorities.
Ensure architectural quality and compliance in IT solutions, working closely with application architects and project teams.
Champion and apply recognized Application Architecture standards across teams, adapting to internal transformation and sector-specific requirements.
Coach and mentor other architects, supporting the adoption of architecture principles and reference models.
Foster collaboration across roles (architects, project managers, analysts, developers) and drive cross-domain synergy.
Support sector-wide digital initiatives and collaborative projects within the public sector ecosystem.

What We’re Looking For

Proven experience in establishing, implementing, and governing IT and application architecture at scale.
Strategic and analytical mindset with the ability to perform impact analyses, evaluate scenarios, and support decision-making.
Expertise in evaluating legacy applications, developing migration strategies, and integrating with new platforms.
Strong technical foundation to engage meaningfully with IT experts across disciplines.
Demonstrated leadership in driving architectural governance and stakeholder alignment.
Outstanding communication skills, with a talent for bringing clarity and structure to complex challenges.
Experience in change management, guiding transformation, and effectively managing resistance.
Collaborative approach, excelling in multidisciplinary teams and promoting cross-functional cooperation.
Autonomous, results-driven, and committed to delivering measurable impact.
Experience in the public sector, knowledge of pension systems, or familiarity with Belgian social security is a plus.
