Position: Mainframe Developer
Location: Toronto (Onsite)
Duration: 6 Months contract with possible extension
Experience Required: 10+ Years
Role Summary:
The Mainframe Developer will act as the primary IT liaison between interfacing applications, infrastructure teams, third-party vendors, and business partners, providing end-to-end production support for mainframe applications.
This role requires a strong technical background in Mainframe development (COBOL, JCL, DB2, CICS, IMS DBDC), excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills, and the ability to drive performance improvements and technical solutions across complex systems.
Key Responsibilities:
• Serve as the primary IT contact for production support across multiple mainframe applications.
• Collaborate with infrastructure teams, application owners, business partners, and external vendors to ensure seamless operations.
• Perform capacity and performance tuning to maintain or enhance system efficiency.
• Analyze and resolve complex application and infrastructure issues using strong analytical and debugging skills.
• Provide consulting and technical expertise for new infrastructure initiatives.
• Assess business and system requirements, explore technology options, and recommend appropriate solutions.
• Prepare and present technical proposals and solution recommendations to senior management.
• Partner with internal/external stakeholders to resolve defects, manage change requests, and implement support initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with process and documentation standards.
• Participate in a production support on-call rotation and provide backup support when required.
Required Skills & Experience:
• Experience: Minimum 10 years of experience in Mainframe application development, support, and implementation.
• Technical Skills:
o IBM Mainframe technologies – COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, IMS DBDC
o Job scheduling and automation: ZEKE (or similar tools)
o Messaging & middleware: MQ Series
o Version control & tracking tools: GitHub, JIRA
o Exposure to Base24, HPE NonStop, and network components is a strong plus
• Analytical Skills: Proven ability to troubleshoot complex issues across applications and infrastructure layers.
• Performance Tuning: Hands-on experience optimizing mainframe performance and resource utilization.
• Communication: Strong interpersonal and documentation skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
