Job Specifications
Experienced Python Engineer - Healthcare AI Platform
The Mission
Obesity and diabetes are exploding globally, yet only a fraction of people get professional nutritional support. At BiometrIQ, we're changing that.
We build tools that help 400+ nutritional coaches across Belgium and the Netherlands deliver deeply personalized, data-driven care. Our platform transforms wearable data, biomarkers, and lab results into actionable health journeys - making professional nutrition coaching more accessible, precise, and impactful.
We've raised €1M from top Belgian investors and we're scaling fast: expanding to France and Wallonia, preparing for Series A in 2026, and building toward an AI-led future of personalized nutrition.
The Opportunity
You'll be our third engineer joining a small, high-impact team (2 developers + product manager). This means:
- Real ownership: You'll own entire domains, not just tickets
- Shape the product: Work directly with founders, influence technical direction
- Build the AI future: We're not AI-powered *yet* - but that's where we're heading in 2026 and beyond. Help us get there.
- Greenfield challenges: Design brand-new systems from scratch (consult planning, AI-driven summarization)
- Tangible impact: Your code helps people transform their health and lives
What you'll actually do:
- Month 1: Help finish our platform rewrite (FastAPI, PostgreSQL, Vue3)
- Months 3-6: Build a new system for consult planning, organization, and intelligent follow-up
- 6+ months: Make the platform smarter - integrate LLMs, add automation, reduce manual work for coaches
You'll be primarily backend (Python/FastAPI) but comfortable jumping into frontend (Vue3) when needed. Not full-stack, but not scared of `` tags either.
Our Stack
- Backend: Python, FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, PostgreSQL, Redis
- Frontend: Vue3 (you'll touch this occasionally - we promise it won't bite)
- Infrastructure: GCP, Terraform
- AI *(coming 2026)*: LLM integration (OpenAI, Anthropic), RAG, agent workflows
Who You Are
Must-haves:
- 3+ years of professional Python development experience
- Strong FastAPI or similar framework experience (Flask, Django)
- Comfortable with relational databases and ORMs (bonus points if you actually enjoy writing SQL)
- Can work independently and take ownership
- Adaptable: You have strong opinions, loosely held - willing to align with team decisions
- Speak Dutch and/or English
- Able to work hybrid in Ghent, Belgium (2-3 days/week in office - you don't need to live here, but you need to show up)
Nice-to-haves:
- Experience with LLM/AI integration (prompt engineering, RAG, agents) or eagerness to learn
- Vue3 or modern frontend framework experience
- Built systems from 0→1 before
- Worked in early-stage startups or small teams
- Health tech or data-intensive domain experience
You'll struggle here if you:
- Need heavy direction or prefer clear, stable processes (we're a startup - ambiguity is a feature, not a bug)
- Only want to work on "cool" problems (sometimes we fix bugs and optimize queries - shocking, we know)
- Prefer large companies with established structure
- Can't handle shifting priorities or wearing multiple hats
What We Offer
- Competitive salary for the Belgian market
- Equity/stock options - be an owner, not just an employee
- Real impact: Shape product, tech stack, and culture as the third engineer
- Work-life balance: Flexible schedule, family-friendly (many team members have kids - we get it, life happens)
- Growth: Learn AI/LLM integration, system design, product thinking - skills that accelerate your career
- Mission-driven: Build something that genuinely improves people's health and lives (yes, really)
Location & Logistics
- Office: Ghent, Belgium (beautiful city, great beer)
- Work mode: Hybrid - at least 2 days/week in office (preferably 3)
- Languages: Dutch and/or English
- Start date: ASAP
- Contract type: We accept on payroll as well as freelance applications
Application Process
We keep it simple and move fast:
1. Email us at maarten@biometriq.be with:
- Your CV/resume
- Brief intro (3-5 sentences): Why BiometrIQ? Why now? What excites you about this role?
2. Intro call (30-45 min): Get to know each other, check mutual expectations, see if there's chemistry
3. Take-home assignment: We'll send you a realistic problem to solve (you'll have up to 2 weeks - we respect your time)
4. In-person meeting in Ghent: Discuss your solution, meet the founders, see the office, ask us hard questions
5. Offer (if all goes well): We aim to complete the entire process in less than a month from first contact to offer
Questions or want to chat first? Email Maarten - we're happy to discuss the role, tech stack, or answer any questions before you apply.
