Within Azure Data, the databases team builds and maintains Microsoft's operational Database systems. We store and manage data in a structured way to enable multitude of applications across various industries. We are on a journey to enable developer friendly, mission-critical, AI enabled operational Databases across relational, non-relational and OSS offerings.

We are looking for a Software Engineer II to join the Azure Cosmos DB team, where you will be working on a large-scale, distributed, transactional and analytical database. This role is within the Livesite Tooling team, which builds intelligent platforms, AI agents, and copilots for automatically and timely triage, root cause, and mitigate live-site, distributed system incidents to guarantee our promised 99.999% service level agreement.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will work on automated debugging technologies, build languages and frameworks, implement microservices, AI agents, and copilots, and collaborate with different groups within Azure to create world-class infrastructures for live-site automation and tooling. Our team is at the cutting edge of service reliability engineering and the work we do will set the standard for the rest of Azure and the open-source community.
Creates and implements code for a product, service, or feature, reusing code as applicable. Applies coding patterns and best practices to write code.
Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) working on call to monitor and mitigate system/product feature/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions.
Builds knowledge, shares new ideas, and shares pinpoints of engineering tool gaps to improve software developer tools to support other programs, tools, and applications to create, debug, and maintain code for complex product features. Uses open source when possible.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
OR equivalent experience.
1+ years of hands-on experience in building and maintaining cloud services.

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

2+ years of hands-on experience in building and maintaining cloud services.
Understanding of Observability and MELT implementation patterns for large-scale services.
Experience with the Jupyter ecosystem.
Industry/academic experience in prototyping and building AI agents and copilots.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.
