Position Role

ONGold Resources Inc. (“ONGold”) is currently looking for a well-rounded geologist with strong database, computer software and IT skills to join our dynamic team. The Database Geologist will play a critical role in supporting the exploration team ensuring integrity, accuracy, validation, security and availability of geological data in support of our exploration and resource development projects. The successful candidate will support the geology department on our Monument Bay Au-W Project in northeastern Manitoba and TPK project in northern Ontario.

The successful candidate will have strong mining and mineral exploration software skills as well as experience in the design, implementation and maintenance of mine/exploration company database systems. This individual will be responsible for managing data workflows, validating and importing incoming assay certificates, and maintaining QA/QC standards across all exploration activities for ONGold’s geological database.

Key Responsibilities

·      Developing and maintaining geological databases, including drilling and exploration data.

·      Provide clean, validated datasets to support geological modelling and resource estimation.

·      Ensure databases are secure, efficient and accessible to authorized users.

·      Maintain database performance tuning, backup and recovery operations and implement data security measures. 

·      Resolving data discrepancies and validating databases. Troubleshoot issues as they arise.

·      Incorporate historical datasets into the master database, ensuring consistency and data integrity.

·      Maintaining accurate records and documentation of geological data ensuring that all reports, assays and other technical data are filed electronically and are easily retrievable.

·      Collaborate with geologists and technicians to ensure timely and accurate data entry and reporting.

·      Compile, load and/or migrate field and assay data from company software into geological databases; currently using 2D GIS (ArcGIS Pro) and 3D (Leapfrog, Geoscience Analyst) and logging software (Geotic Log). 

·      Ensure geological data is collected to company standards with strict adherence to Quality Control/Quality Assurance (“QA/QC”) protocols and validate drill logs.

·      Liaise with analytical laboratories to coordinate QA/QC and analytical results and resolve potential issues.

·      Import assay certificates and ensure proper QA/QC validation for the geological teams.

·      Prepare monthly and quarterly QA/QC reports, including documentation of procedures and results.  

·      Create data capture templates.

·      Recommend appropriate Certified Reference Materials for drilling and field exploration programs.

·      Managing database/software user accounts, permissions and access rights.

·      Provide QA/QC support for other geological and geochemical datasets as required.

·      Train and support the geological team in data collection tools and QA/QC procedures.

·      Assist the geological team with logging and core/field sampling if required.

·      Promote and maintain a clean and safe working environment for all staff, including strict adherence to health, safety, environmental and community relations regulations and policies.

·      Comply with all internal policies and procedures pertaining to the position.

·      Assessment Report Filing.

Education/Qualifications

·      A degree in Geology and/or Earth Sciences would be considered an asset.

·      Registered Professional Geoscientist (“P.Geo.”) with a Provincial Association in good standing or be eligible to be registered would also be considered an asset.

·      A Certified Engineering Technologist with CET designation, a comprehensive sound understanding of the mining/exploration industry and significant experience in database management will also be considered.

·      Minimum of 5 years’ practical experience working as a project geologist for mining and exploration companies on gold, precious metal and base metal projects in Archean Greenstone belts would be an asset.

·      Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in database management, including proficiency in SQL and NoSQL databases.

·      Experience in QA/QC procedures and management.

·      Strong grasp of data validation and resource geology requirements.

·      Excellent analytical, numerical and communication skills

·      Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities

·      Additional education in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science or a related field will also be considered an asset.
