Take a placement that genuinely matters. Join a one-year engineering programme where you’ll apply what you’ve learned at university to complex, high-security projects that support UK defence.

You’ll work alongside experienced engineers, contribute to live programmes, and gain skills you can take into any future career — from advanced manufacturing and systems design to infrastructure and technology innovation.

Key Criteria

Studying a relevant engineering degree
On track for 2:2 or above
Able to start a 12-month placement in August 2026
Eligible to obtain UK DV security clearance and able to work on-site at Aldermaston
Eligible for DV clearance
Curious, analytical mindset with a willingness to learn
Confident team player who can communicate clearly
Able to work on-site at Aldermaston regularly

What you’ll do

Over your placement year, you’ll gain real experience in:

Engineering design and development
Manufacturing and production processes
Large, complex construction and infrastructure programmes
Analytical modelling, testing and simulation (including VR)
Additive manufacturing and advanced technology applications
Systems engineering and reliability improvements

You’ll build the confidence to solve technical problems, collaborate across teams, and contribute to major engineering challenges from day one.

We welcome students from a wide range of engineering disciplines, including:

Manufacturing, Mechanical, Design, Aerospace, Chemical, Automotive, Electrical, Robotics, Mechatronics, Systems, Materials, Civil and Nuclear Engineering.

You must have achieved a minimum 2:2 in your degree so far by August 2026.
