Alation Data Governance and Cataloging Analyst

Location San Jose CA Remote

Contract

Purpose Support robust data governance decisions by analyzing platform usage data quality access security and compliance metrics Provide critical insights on governance adoption domain maturity and the effectiveness of metadata management ensuring data assets are discoverable understood and trusted

Key Responsibilities

Lead the development maintenance and curation of the data catalog data dictionary and data taxonomy ensuring comprehensive and accurate metadata

Conduct indepth data profiling and data quality assessments on priority data domains identifying issues and recommending remediation strategies

Design develop and maintain interactive dashboards and scorecards using tools like Power BI and Tableau to measure data maturity data usage data health lineage completeness and metadata coverage

Support governance OKR reporting for leadership translating complex data into actionable insights

Collaborate with data domain teams to analyze data usage patterns identify lineage gaps and assess data trust scores

Document and visualize trends in data adoption metadata completeness and AI readiness across the organization

Leverage standardized reports and builtin querying assists from governance tooling eg Alation and data platforms eg Snowflake to create customized and unified documentation and reporting This includes utilizing Alation Compose SQL to customize existing reports or build new reports specifically for catalog metrics

Qualifications

5 years of experience in data analytics data governance or a related field

Proven proficiency in SQL Python Power BI andor Tableau

Deep understanding and practical experience with data quality metadata management data cataloging data dictionary and data taxonomy concepts

Strong analytical storytelling and data visualization skills with the ability to communicate complex insights clearly to diverse audiences

Extensive experience working with Snowflake or other modern cloud data platforms

Handson experience with data governance and cataloging tools such as Alation including practical experience with Alation Compose SQL or similar platforms

Comfortable utilizing builtin querying assists and reporting features within governance and data platforms to extract and analyze data effectively
