Database Administrator
Location: Glasgow - Hybrid (3 days in office)
Day Rate: £510 (Inside IR35)
Contract Duration: 6 Months
Additional Conditions: On-call over weekends
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator to manage PostgreSQL, Greenplum or Snowflake databases. The role includes administration, performance tuning, backup and recovery, automation, and supporting data ingestion and integration pipelines.
Focus areas:
Snowflake DBA – data lakes, architecture, roles, schemas, and databases.
Greenplum/Postgres DBA – database maintenance, migrations, and performance optimisation.
Responsibilities
Administer and maintain PostgreSQL, Greenplum, and Snowflake databases
Design and manage Snowflake data structures, roles, schemas, and databases
Build and manage data ingestion pipelines (Informatica, Talend)
Manage data from multiple sources (JSON, XML, CSV)
Implement Patroni for HADR and streaming replication
Perform database provisioning, maintenance, upgrades, and migrations (gpcopy)
Optimise performance using statistics and Greenplum utilities (gpload, PXF, GP spark)
Manage database bloat and troubleshoot issues using GPTEXT
Develop scripts in Shell, Python, or Ansible to automate routine tasks
Ensure database security, compliance, and best practices
Implement monitoring solutions to proactively detect and resolve issues
Support cloud deployments (AWS, Azure, GCP)
Essential Skills
Extensive experience with PostgreSQL, Greenplum, and Snowflake administration
Postgres: provisioning, maintenance, upgrades, and migrations
Greenplum: migrations, performance tuning, bloat management, GPTEXT, utilities (gpload, PXF, GP spark)
Snowflake: architecture, data lakes, roles, schemas, SQL, complex queries
Expertise in Patroni for HADR and streaming replication
Scripting skills in Shell, Python, or Ansible
Experience with backup, recovery, and database security
Desirable Skills
ETL processes and implementation
Data ingestion pipelines (Informatica, Talend)
Cloud experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP
