Freelance Sustainable Packaging Procurement Manager

Location: Brussels, Belgium (Hybrid)
Start Date: February 2026
Contract Duration: 12 months
Reporting Line: Head of Procurement - Packaging & Sustainability

About the Project:
This role supports a global FMCG packaging transformation program aimed at reducing carbon footprint and meeting ambitious ESG targets. The focus is on sourcing innovative, sustainable packaging solutions for multiple product categories, including personal care and food products, ensuring compliance with EU sustainability regulations and circular economy principles.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and execute category strategies for sustainable packaging materials (recyclable plastics, biodegradable films, fiber-based solutions).
Lead end-to-end sourcing processes (RFI/RFP/RFQ), including supplier benchmarking and cost modelling.
Negotiate contracts ensuring cost optimisation, sustainability compliance, and risk mitigation.
Collaborate with R&D and Marketing to align packaging innovation with product development timelines and brand objectives.
Drive supplier innovation sessions to introduce new technologies (e.g., compostable materials, low-carbon packaging).
Ensure compliance with EU packaging directives and corporate ESG frameworks.
Monitor supplier performance through KPIs and implement continuous improvement plans.

Ideal Profile:

Strong experience in packaging procurement within FMCG or consumer goods.
Knowledge of sustainable materials, EU packaging regulations, and ESG standards.
Proven ability to manage complex supplier negotiations and multi-stakeholder projects.
Fluent in English; French or Dutch is a plus.
