Cloud Operations Engineering Lead – 6 Months Contract - Remote
Change Digital are recruiting for a hands-on Cloud Operations Engineering Manager to lead the team that runs our client’s production platforms in AWS. You’ll own availability, security, and operational excellence across a multi-region estate, driving an automation first culture where maintenance, compliance, and fixes run through pipelines, not people.
What you’ll do
Lead a high-performing Cloud Ops team operating critical production platforms.
Define and meet SLOs; design for resilience (networking, Route 53, resolvers, DR).
Make everything code: Terraform modules, runbooks-as-code, policy/compliance-as-code; enforce change via CI/CD with plans, approvals, automated tests, and safe rollbacks.
Reduce MTTR by ensuring all workloads have strong observability.
Partner with Security on guardrails (IAM, KMS, patching baselines, vulnerability management) and continuously reduce toil by automating routine maintenance (patching, cert rotation, backups/restore tests, EOL upgrades).
Collaborate across Architecture, Security, Development, Data, and Operations, share standards and reusable building blocks across Cloud teams.
What you’ll bring
Proven leadership of a Cloud team running 24×7 production in AWS, ideally multi-region.
Deep Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and CI/CD experience for infrastructure (git-based workflows, policy-as-code, automated infrastructure testing).
Strong cloud networking & DNS knowledge: VPCs, routing, resolvers, failover/health checks; bonus for Transit Gateway or Cloud WAN.
Solid security fundamentals (IAM, secrets/KMS, patching, vulnerability management) and real-world incident/on-call experience with blameless postmortems.
Scripting skills (Python/Bash) and a pragmatic approach to cost, capacity, and reliability.
