About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Staff Engineer to join Qualcomm's open-source community initiatives within the Engineering Group. In this role, you will be instrumental in enhancing the quality and robustness of Qualcomm's open-source offerings, including contributions to Linux kernel, Yocto/OE, Debian, security software, and boot firmware tailored for Qualcomm platforms. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to develop scalable tooling, improve upstream projects, and support customer applications, ensuring the delivery of reliable and high-performance software solutions. This position offers a unique opportunity to influence the future of open-source software in embedded systems and hardware platforms, contributing to industry-leading projects and representing Qualcomm at industry events and conferences.
Qualifications
Experience in open-source software development and contribution, both upstream and downstream
Proficiency in C, C++, Assembly, and high-level languages such as Python, Go, or Rust
Strong understanding of embedded software, bootloaders, Linux kernel, and Linux distributions
Excellent technical, communication, and engineering management skills
Ability to work effectively across multiple teams, including product and engineering
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Willingness to travel globally as needed (several times per year)
Experience working with Linux distributions and related open-source projects
Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields with 6+ years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree with 5+ years; or a PhD with 4+ years of experience. Additionally, at least 3 years of programming experience in languages such as C, C++, Java, or Python is required.
Responsibilities
Develop and maintain scalable tooling to enable Qualcomm to efficiently deliver core software across various open-source distributions
Collaborate with Qualcomm's Central Software Engineering team to improve software quality and upstream contributions
Contribute to and represent Qualcomm in industry events, conferences, and open-source communities
Mentor team members and build expertise within the Foundries and Qualcomm OSS teams
Enhance Linux kernel support for peripherals, buses, interconnects, schedulers, thermal management, and power optimization
Improve security software, boot firmware, and platform-specific features
Support customer applications and troubleshoot issues related to Qualcomm's platform technology
Stay updated with industry trends and emerging technologies in multimedia, networking, and embedded systems
