Position Overview:
Title: Director of E-Commerce & Marketplace
Location: Willowbrook, IL or New York, NY
Reports to: Executive Team
Type: Full-time; Hybrid
Compensation: Negotiable (based on experience)
We are seeking an experienced dynamic, strategic, and results-driven Director of E-Commerce & Marketplace to lead the E-Commerce team in growing our Amazon and direct-to-consumer (DTC) businesses across multiple brands. This individual will own the E-Commerce P&L, drive profitable revenue growth, and oversee the strategy, performance marketing, technology stack, and execution of our Amazon, Shopify Plus, and other marketplace businesses.
This leader will report into our Executive Team, while partnering across multiple departments, including but not limited to; Marketing, Brand, Finance, and Operations, to deliver seamless and consistent customer experience all while maximizing profitability. They will be responsible for ensuring that the digital selling strategies align with each brand’s broader goals while accelerating E-Commerce as a core growth channel’ contributing to bottom line profit and positioning the team as a long-term center of excellence for the entirety of Tru.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & P&L Ownership
Business leadership:
Serve as the General Manager for E-Commerce, owning budgeting and reporting of sales, margin, and overall profitability of Amazon, Shopify and other marketplace sales.
Drive growth:
Develop and execute comprehensive near-term and long-term growth strategies for all E-Commerce platforms, with clear financial, brand building and organizational goals.
Strategic alignment:
Collaborate with brand leads to align E-Commerce strategy, including Amazon/marketplace vs Shopify objectives, with broader brand priorities, marketing campaigns, and product launches.
Financial planning and execution:
In partnership with our Finance team, build annual and monthly forecasts by channel; develop and manage budgets and growth targets; monitor performance and adjust forecasts and tactics in real time.
Operational excellence:
Partner with IT and Finance to ensure compliance, data integrity, and accurate reporting.
New business and innovation:
Identify and appropriately prioritize emerging selling platforms, technologies and other new business opportunities for growth.
Amazon & Marketplace Leadership
Business leadership:
Lead the Amazon strategy to increase revenue, profitability and market share while maintaining consistent brand presence and positioning.
Resource management and team building:
Manage and optimize relationships with Amazon agencies and partners while building our in-house expertise and team to create a best-in-class Amazon business.
Marketing performance:
Oversee Amazon advertising performance in partnership with external agencies, ensuring maximum ROI and efficient ad spend.
Brand building:
Maintain alignment with brand marketing teams to understand and influence the impact of off-platform marketing tactics.
Operational excellence:
Work with Operations on FBA strategy, demand planning, and supply chain optimization to support sales goals and margin goals.
Partner and channel expertise:
Stay up to speed on latest Amazon platform requirements, tools and data sources. Maintain and grow network of experts and advisors. Ensure compliance with Amazon’s operational guidelines and develop tactics to improve product listings, content, ratings, and reviews.
New business:
Appropriately prioritize and resource complementary Marketplace strategies including Walmart and TikTok.
DTC Strategy & Execution (Shopify Plus)
Brand alignment:
Maintain alignment between DTC strategy and tactics with near-term and long-term brand growth objectives
Consumer experience:
Oversee the end-to-end consumer experience on Shopify Plus, ensuring sites are optimized for conversion, AOV, and retention.
Operational excellence:
Partner with Operations to ensure inventory planning, fulfillment, and logistics are fully aligned with demand.
Marketing performance:
Direct all performance marketing efforts for e-commerce and Marketplace including paid search, Meta/boosted Social.
Partner with Marketing on broader paid influencer and affiliate strategy to ensure integrated, omnichannel strategy.
Use data-driven insights to continuously refine performance marketing tactics for CAC efficiency and LTV growth.
Site performance and technology:
Lead site merchandising, promotions, and UX strategies in collaboration with Brand and Marketing teams.
Own the tech stack and digital tools, including evaluating and implementing solutions for personalization, CRM, loyalty programs, and marketing automation.
Qualifications:
10+ years of experience in e-commerce leadership roles, with extensive Amazon AND DTC brand sales and team leadership experience.
Proven track record of owning and growing a multi-brand Amazon FBA business, including experience managing Amazon agency partner
