The Role
At S&P DJI, our business is built on data and technology. The Platforms & Core Engineering organization is the foundation upon which all our products and services are built. This group provides the core infrastructure, data platforms, and reliability practices that enable engineers to deliver essential index services to the world's financial markets. We are looking for a deeply technical and experienced leader to become our Global Head of Platforms & Core Engineering. This is a senior, hands-on leadership role for a true engineering expert. You will be responsible for the vision, strategy, and execution of the platforms that define our performance, scale, and resilience. Your teams will provide the "paved road" for cloud infrastructure, the central nervous system for data, and the gold standard for system reliability. Your mission is to build and operate a world-class engineering foundation that is fast, resilient, and highly leveraged, giving S&P DJI a decisive competitive advantage.
Key Responsibilities
Platform Strategy & Execution: Define and own the roadmap for all foundational technology, including our multi-cloud strategy, enterprise data platforms, developer experience (DevEx), and SRE/QE practices.
Build for Scale & Performance: Lead the architecture of high-throughput, low-latency systems that serve as the bedrock for all our products. You will ensure our core infrastructure can meet the extreme performance demands of a global financial technology leader.
Drive Reliability & Resilience: Champion and scale our System Reliability Engineering (SRE) practice across the enterprise. You will be accountable for the availability, latency, and resilience of our most critical shared services, especially within our regulated entities.
Enable Developer Velocity: Empower our application development teams by providing a world-class, automated platform for CI/CD, observability, and testing. Your goal is to make the secure and reliable path the easiest path for all engineers.
Lead Expert Teams: Manage and mentor multiple teams of senior, specialized engineers across Cloud, Data, and Reliability Engineering. You will be the firm's leading technical authority in these domains, fostering a culture of deep technical expertise and operational excellence.
What We're Looking For
This is a senior role for a candidate with a specific and proven background in building mission-critical platforms at scale.
Industry Experience
15+ years of experience in technology, with 7+ years in a senior leadership role managing platform, infrastructure, or SRE teams.
Crucial Requirement: A proven track record working at a firm with a similar high-stakes technology environment, such as exchanges, trading floors etc.
Extensive experience operating within a regulated environment is highly preferred.
Technical Expertise
Mastery of modern, multi-cloud architecture. You must possess deep, hands-on knowledge across at least two major cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure).
Demonstrable expertise in designing, building, and operating high-throughput, low-latency distributed systems. You are an expert in the patterns and practices that deliver elite performance and resilience.
Proven domain knowledge across the core responsibilities:
Foundational Engineering: Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform), large-scale technologies similar to Kubernetes, and automated CI/CD.
Data Platform Engineering: Experience with enterprise-scale data lakes/lakehouses similar to (e.g., Databricks, BigQuery), real-time data streaming technologies similar to Kafka, and MLOps infrastructure.
Reliability & Quality: Deep, practical application of SRE principles (SLOs, error budgets, blameless post-mortems).
Leadership Style
A "player-coach" who can command the respect of principal-level engineers and is not afraid to dive deep into complex architectural challenges.
A strategic thinker who sees platform engineering as a product that serves internal developers.
An exceptional communicator who can articulate complex technical concepts to business stakeholders and executive leadership.
Compensation/Benefits Information
(This section is only applicable to US candidates) S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $220,656 to $325,000. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual’s geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses and certifications.
In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan. This role is not eligible for additional compensation such as an annual incentive bonus or sales commission plan.
