Lead Technical Architect – 12-Month Contract (Hybrid | SC Cleared | MOD Sites)

Location: Hybrid — occasional visits to Corsham and Northwood MOD sites

Clearance: Active SC clearance required

Duration: 12 Months - will extend

Coltech are supporting a major long-term Defence programme and we’re looking for a Lead Technical Architect to join a small, senior architecture team shaping the next-generation All-Domain Data Interoperability (ADDI) platform.

This role is ideal for someone who can take early-stage or prototype architectures and evolve them into secure, scalable, production-grade systems. You’ll combine architectural vision with hands-on technical leadership across engineering teams.

What you’ll be doing

Define and own the target architecture and technical roadmap
Evolve PoCs into validated patterns, reusable components and reference services
Set and enforce standards across security, interoperability and deployment
Lead architectural decision-making, design reviews and technical assurance
Provide code-level guidance and pattern stewardship
Shape DevSecOps, IaC and automation practices for secure delivery at pace
Work closely with programme leadership and senior Defence stakeholders

What we’re looking for

Strong background architecting complex, distributed systems
Experience hardening prototype/experimental architectures into production
Deep knowledge of APIs, microservices, event streaming, containerisation, cloud-native patterns
Secure-system design expertise (Zero Trust, identity fabrics, cross-domain concepts)
Ability to move between strategic design and detailed technical validation
Experience working in mission-critical, regulated or Defence environments
Understanding of Defence/NATO standards (desirable)
Current and active SC clearance (mandatory)
