Title: AI Support Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Support Engineer to join a development team on a contractor basis. This hybrid role bridges user support and engineering, serving as the technical escalation point for complex issues while maintaining and improving test infrastructure. You will perform deep technical troubleshooting, analyze logs across cloud environments, implement and execute test strategies, and drive bug fixes. When support workload permits, you'll also contribute to test automation and quality initiatives. This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer who thrives in both reactive problem-solving and proactive quality improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Support & User Engagement
Serve as the primary escalation point for complex technical user issues beyond standard support capabilities.
Work directly with users to understand problems, communicate findings, and guide them through resolutions.
Log Analysis & Debugging
Perform detailed log analysis using modern logging tools to diagnose issues, identify root causes, and trace system behavior.
Bug Fixes & Implementation
Implement bug fixes and minor code changes based on user reports, log analysis, and testing insights.
Test Strategy & Automation
Design, implement, and maintain automated testing strategies, including unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.
Testing Execution
Execute manual and automated testing to validate fixes, identify regressions, and ensure overall system reliability.
Documentation & Communication
Document issues, resolutions, and test results; communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Proactive Quality Improvements
Identify opportunities to improve test coverage, automate repetitive tasks, and reduce technical debt.
Required Qualifications
5+ years of software development experience, with strong expertise in Python
Proficiency in PostgreSQL and relational database concepts
Solid understanding of cloud services and distributed systems
Hands-on experience with application logging and log analysis tools
Demonstrated experience designing and implementing automated test strategies
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work autonomously and shift between support and development priorities
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with modern AI/ML or generative AI services
Experience with Python test frameworks (pytest, unittest, etc.)
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing integration
Experience with Vue.js or other modern frontend frameworks
Background in highly regulated or complex technical environments
Technical Skills
Backend: Python
Databases: PostgreSQL, relational design fundamentals
Cloud: Experience across common cloud compute, storage, and serverless services
Logging & Monitoring: Modern log aggregation and monitoring tools
Testing: Test automation frameworks, test design methodologies, CI/CD integration
Frontend (Optional): Experience with Vue.js or similar frameworks

Work Environment
Contractor role (12-month initial term, renewable based on project needs)
Reports to an Engineering Manager
Collaborates closely with product and engineering teams on escalations
