We’re looking for candidates who have grown through system engineering, big data administration, or platform engineering roles and have hands-on ownership of large-scale Hadoop environments.
Project DetailsThis is an ongoing engineering and support role within a mature Hadoop Platform Engineering team. The environment consists of 30+ Hadoop clusters, and this person will be responsible for building, configuring, maintaining, and supporting the full ecosystem. They will also contribute to performance tuning, deep troubleshooting, and ensuring platform reliability across production and non-production clusters.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Manage, configure, build, and support large-scale Hadoop clusters (30+ clusters).
Ensure all Hadoop ecosystem services remain healthy and available (Hive, YARN, Impala, Kerberos, Ranger, etc.).
Own deep-level troubleshooting and diagnostic work for cluster issues.
Perform service tuning and performance optimization across the platform.
Handle tickets using Nexus (beta/BAU environments) and Remedy (production issues).
Manage platform security, including SSL certificate administration, Kerberos authentication, and Ranger-based authorization/encryption.
Participate in an on-call rotation (every ~2 months) to triage and fix production support issues.
Implement and maintain cluster-level security, including encryption tooling and authentication/authorization services.
Support backup and recovery processes for Hadoop platforms.
Must-Have Skills
5–10+ years in Hadoop SRE, Hadoop Administration, or Big Data Platform Engineering roles.
Expert-level knowledge of the Hadoop ecosystem architecture — Hive, YARN, Impala, Kerberos, Ranger, HDFS, etc.
Strong background in cluster troubleshooting, service optimization, and performance tuning.
Experience managing large, complex Hadoop environments (10+ clusters; ideally 30+).
Demonstrated experience with SSL certificates, Kerberos configuration, and security implementation across distributed platforms.
Hands-on experience supporting production issues in an on-call capacity.
Experience with ticketing systems (Nexus, Remedy) and multi-environment support (beta, BAU, prod).
Experience implementing and maintaining encryption tools, authentication, authorization, and data security frameworks.
Backup, recovery, and platform resilience expertise.
Nice to Have
Hadoop SREs with Kubernetes platform engineering skills (big plus).
Exposure to cloud-based Hadoop or hybrid big data environments.
Automation and scripting for cluster operations (Bash, Python, or similar).
