Tech Lead | Front End Angular and Java | SaaS Provider | Greater London, Hybrid

We’re looking for a hands-on Tech Lead for a fast-growing, private equity–backed SaaS company whose platforms help public sector organisations across the UK and the US.

They’ve recently gone through significant investment and acquisition, and are now unifying multiple legacy products into a modern, data-driven platform. This is a genuine “build the future, not just maintain the past” opportunity.

The role

You’ll be both lead engineer and line manager for one of two brand-new product teams working on a bespoke SaaS product and platform

In practice, that means you will:

Lead a new squad of 4 engineers plus a Product Manager
Own one of the company’s core transformation projects – rewriting and re-architecting a key product without customer downtime
Stay hands-on in Angular, Java and JavaScript/TypeScript, contributing to the codebase every week
Set and uphold engineering standards, practices, and ways of working for your team
Help shape a cleaner, more scalable architecture, making the call on refactor vs rewrite
Coach and develop engineers, and play a key role in building a high-performance, low-ego culture

Banbury-based, hybrid working with 2 days per week in the office and an occasional visit to London.

Experience Required:

We’re looking for someone who:

Has strong hands-on coding skills in Java and JavaScript/TypeScript and Angular, preferably from a SaaS environment.
Is comfortable getting into complex, occasionally confusing legacy systems and untangling them
Has experience leading or mentoring an engineering team (formal line management or de facto tech lead)
Can influence architecture and technical direction, not just implement tickets
Balances engineering quality with delivery – you know when to chase perfection and when to ship
Communicates clearly with engineers, product and non-technical stakeholders
