Senior Java Developer (Contract-to-Hire)
Location: Hybrid – Newark, NJ (Must be based in NY or NJ)
Pay Rate: $65–$75/hour (W2 only)
A major financial firm is hiring multiple Senior Java Developers for contract-to-hire roles based in Newark, NJ. This is an exciting opportunity for experienced developers who have strong expertise in both legacy and modern Java technologies, with hands-on experience in modernization and migration projects.
About the Role:
As a Senior Java Developer, you will lead efforts to modernize critical enterprise applications by migrating legacy Java systems to modern frameworks. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams, provide technical leadership, and play a key role in integrating AI-assisted development tools like Claude to streamline the development process.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the migration of legacy Java applications to modern frameworks
Develop, maintain, and optimize applications using both old (EJB) and modern (Spring Boot) Java frameworks
Collaborate with engineering, architecture, and QA teams to deliver scalable solutions
Integrate and apply AI-assisted development tools (Claude) into the software lifecycle
Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior team members
Ensure best practices in code quality, performance, security, and maintainability
Required Qualifications:
15+ years of Java development experience across legacy and modern environments
Expertise in Java modernization/migration projects
Strong hands-on experience with Java frameworks (EJB, Spring Boot)
Familiarity with both old web servers (e.g., WebSphere) and modern platforms (e.g., AWS ECS, Kubernetes)
Experience with:
API development & consumption (REST, JSON, SOAP, XML)
Database interaction (JDBC, MySQL)
Service-oriented architecture (SOA) patterns
Security best practices (DevSecOps, SSL, JWT, OAuth 2.0, SAML 2.0)
DevOps tools (Jenkins, GitHub, Bitbucket)
SDLC practices, including testing, monitoring, and logging
Experience with AI development tools, particularly Claude AI
Strong debugging, optimization, and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and within a team with minimal supervision
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in the insurance industry
Japanese language skills (a plus, not required)
Portfolio or GitHub showcasing Java modernization projects
Willingness to participate in live coding interviews
