Job Specifications

Head of Project Management Centre of Excellence

The mission

Lead a newly created Project Management Centre of Excellence that sets the bar for how projects are run across the organisation. This team does not deliver projects itself; it defines the standards, tools and governance that make every project team more consistent, effective and confident.

The role

You’ll own the CoE strategy, service catalogue and frameworks, acting as the senior authority on project management practice. Expect a mix of executive stakeholder advisory, governance and assurance, capability building, and hands‑on leadership of tools, training and standards.

What you’ll do

Define and execute the CoE strategy, service catalogue, governance model and project management frameworks, keeping them aligned with portfolio and business objectives.
Own and evolve the governance and assurance playbook, standardising templates, methods and stage gates across the enterprise.
Act as principal advisor to senior leaders and business units on project standards, portfolio maturity and delivery performance.
Lead the CoE team (tools, standards, capability, learning), ensuring tools, frameworks, training and reporting work as a joined‑up service.
Track adoption, satisfaction and maturity metrics, benchmark performance and run annual reviews to keep the CoE at best‑practice level.

What you bring

Extensive experience leading PMOs or project management CoEs in complex, cross‑functional organisations.
Proven track record defining and rolling out PM frameworks, governance models, maturity models and performance reporting.
Executive‑level stakeholder management skills, comfortable influencing at senior governance forums.
Strong people leadership experience, building collaborative, high‑performing teams and uplifting project management capability.
Professional PM qualifications (APM, PMI or PRINCE2 essential; MoP, MSP or Prosci a plus) and degree‑level education or equivalent experience.
