Job Specifications
Senior Python Developer — $70BN AUM Hedge Fund — Private Credit — London — Up to £350k TC
This is a seat where you’ll build systems that actually move money—inside a $70B AUM UK hedge fund in the middle of one of the largest infrastructure modernisation programmes in UK financial services.
The firm is rebuilding core platforms away from legacy stacks and doubling down on bespoke internal systems across key investment areas. One of the fastest-growing: mortgage technology. You’ll join the business-facing engineering group that sits close to investment, risk, finance, and
ops—shipping tools that get used every day.
If you like high ownership, tight feedback loops, and turning messy real-world processes into clean, scalable software, this is a strong fit.
The Mission
Mortgage businesses don’t win on pretty dashboards—they win on speed, accuracy, control, and automation. Your job is to build the tooling that helps the fund originate, value, analyse, and report on mortgage exposure—reliably, at scale, and with a clear path off legacy.
What you’ll build
Core applications supporting mortgage origination, valuation, analytics, and reporting.
Production-grade Python that replaces manual processes with automated workflows (less Excel, fewer hand-offs, fewer operational breaks).
Data + reporting pipelines where correctness, auditability, and pragmatic performance matter.
Extensions to tools inside a ring-fenced legacy environment, while ensuring new development aligns to the firm’s next-gen architecture.
Automation opportunities across pipelines, reporting frameworks, controls, and analytical tooling—then actually shipping them.
You’ll partner directly with business users: clarify what matters, design something that scales, and deliver it end-to-end.
The team & culture
This group is known internally for delivery velocity and strong stakeholder trust. It’s led by an ex-Goldman engineering leader and operates like a proper engineering function: pragmatic, outcomes-driven, and influential across the organisation.
You’re joining at a moment where engineering has real mandate and budget—your work will help define how the firm operates for the next decade.
What they’re looking for
Strong Python engineering skills (pandas, NumPy, SQLAlchemy, etc.) with a “production mindset.”
Experience in business-facing engineering: translating real workflows into maintainable systems.
Track record building internal tools, workflow automation, and data-driven applications.
Domain bonus: mortgages / fixed income / structured products.
Nice-to-have: exposure to Rust or C++ (not required).
Strong communication: you can work with non-engineers without turning every requirement into a six-week spec.
Why join
A genuinely high-impact seat in a major modernisation programme (not “legacy maintenance with a new title”).
Tools you build are used directly by investment + operational teams—fast feedback, visible results.
Flat, engineering-led environment with strong leadership support.
Strong comp, benefits, and on-site facilities.
Institutional stability with the pace and ambition of a modern rebuild.
