Job Description
The Director of Enterprise Architecture (EA) is an integral member of the digital transformation team within Enterprise Shared Services who oversees strategic planning, architecture, and engineering of the organizations IT operations. Key initiatives include defining and driving the company’s data architecture strategy, developing enterprise roadmaps, supporting digital transformation initiatives, and business technology roadmap management.
The Director of EA shall collaborate with other functional leads to establish an effective information architecture across all enterprise IT platforms and provide primary input to the IT governance process. This function is responsible for managing design/build for multiple technical platforms including: Data Center/Cloud, Desktop, Network, Application Services, Enterprise Architecture, IT Security, and Process Management across the IT function. This function will optimize the application of IT investments through the design of effective solutions for implementation and develop implementation plans and will work with critical vendors to develop cross-platform solutions.
The Director of EA will lead system engineering and architecture processes, including establishing design inputs and designs using various system requirement methodologies ensuring functional processes are relevant to the business and optimize as needed, ensuring functional process are integrated and standardized, and for ensuring functional processes meet applicable compliance and assessment standards.
The Director of EA is responsible for ensuring that the business and technology are in alignment by linking business mission, strategy, and processes of BAE Systems to IT technology strategy. The candidate will foster a community of architects versed in the TOGAF open group architecture framework to align technology strategy with business goals.
The candidate is responsible for ensuring designs are compliant with DFARS and CMMC controls across enterprise IT and providing guidance to sector managed systems.
Major Activities & Primary Responsibilities
Mature and advances the practice of enterprise architecture across BAE with a clear charter and resources to execute
Grows and develops talent with the team with the ability to collaborate and influence outcomes
Assesses landscape and creates a roadmap to modernize and simplify legacy technology and technical debt
Partners with the heads of infrastructure, data & analytics, project management and other functions to ensure cross-functional alignment of roadmaps and standards and to identify when changes are required.
Facilitates business and IT alignment through collaborative, consultative leadership, driving digital business strategies and balancing innovation that drives growth with cost optimization and risk mitigation.
Supports the development of technology-enabled business and operating models, providing viable options and visibility into execution issues.
Define and maintain a series of technology roadmaps for major IT capabilities supporting the enterprise (e.g., network, cloud, data, procurement, contracts, digital thread, ERP…)
Align business and IT strategy to ensure IT capabilities align and meet business goals
Foster innovation and ensure the application of new technologies keep the business moving at market speed
Enforce compliance standards and maintain design principles to ensure security, scalability and re-use
Manage the technical documents and inventory of applications and services, with continuous review to evolve and streamline
Lead architecture standards working group activities to review, approve and guide the enterprise on new technology implementations for projects, programs and SaaS/IaaS/PaaS solutions
Provide guidance and mentorship to a community of architects, manage and build relationships
Promote collaboration across sectors and Inc. enterprise
Reduce risk across the enterprise by ensuring deployed technology is secure, resilient and meets policy requirements for privacy, obsolescence and security
Promote and foster a culture of change to increase effectiveness and impact of the architecture function, ensuring engrained in all aspects of the software development lifecycle and lifecycle management processes
