Position Title: Governance Specialist – Emerging Technology & Innovation (Contract/Consultant) Location: Hybrid/On-site preferred at East Hanover, NJ ; US-based
Duration: February 2026 – January 2027 (with potential extension)
Engagement Type: SOW/contractor role supporting Pharma Client US Product Management/Innovation team
Overview This role focuses on reviewing and updating robust innovation governance frameworks for new and emerging technologies, with emphasis on GenAI and XR. The specialist will ensure alignment with Client's evolving business transformation, ethical AI principles, and the AI Risk & Compliance Management Framework (incorporating EU AI Act classifications, risk assessments, human oversight, and safeguards) through close collaboration with risk management stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Review and enhance existing innovation governance policies, standards, and guidelines for emerging technologies (GenAI, XR, multimodal AI, etc.) to support scalable, responsible deployment.
Conduct risk and impact assessments, classify use cases (e.g., low/mid/high-risk per Client framework), and recommend mitigations in collaboration with Compliance, Legal, ERC, Data Privacy, and ISRM teams.
Update governance playbooks, procedures, and tools to address gaps in ethical use, transparency, auditability, and regulatory alignment (GxP, data privacy).
Facilitate cross-functional workshops and reviews to embed governance into innovation processes without stifling acceleration.
Horizon-scan emerging tech risks (e.g., GenAI bias/hallucinations, XR privacy in immersive settings) and provide advisory input.
Use GenAI tools (e.g., Perplexity for research, Claude for analysis) to support governance documentation and assessments.
Required Qualifications
5+ years in AI/ethics governance, risk/compliance, or policy development (pharma/life sciences experience highly preferred).
Deep familiarity with Generative AI risks/applications and emerging technologies like XR.
Knowledge of frameworks like EU AI Act, ethical AI principles, and pharma-specific compliance (GxP, data protection).
Strong analytical and stakeholder collaboration skills.
Nice-to-Haves
Experience with tools like Copilot, Perplexity, Claude, Meta Ray-Ban, or Google Glass for governance evaluations.
Prior work in regulated environments supporting innovation labs or digital transformation.
