Seattle City Light's Engineering & Technology Operations Division (ETO) is seeking a CAD Drafter Intern to join the Technical Resources Unit. The Technical Resources Unit is responsible for collecting, preparing, updating and maintaining all drawings of hydroelectric projects and high voltage substations to ensure drawings used by the City are accurate and timely to avoid project delays and work hazards. This position is an excellent opportunity for college or an undergraduate student to gain experience in Computer Aided Drafting and Design and principals of surveying in civil engineering. The Intern filing the position may work primarily with 3D laser scanning, reality capture existing conditions using FARO scanner, data processing and combine data point clouds of multiple projects in one central registered LiDAR.
Job Responsibilities
Assisting Senior to operate 3D Laser scanning equipment to collect and process 3D data.
Register, process and creating point clouds using FARO Scene.
Combining multi point cloud data sets into one registered point cloud.
Organize and manage all project data for consistency and real-time access.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Undergraduate Engineering students will need to maintain a 2.5 GPA or above throughout the internship.
Areas of Study:
Enrolled in an accredited certificate, 2-year or 4-year undergraduate program during their internship.
Enrolled in an academic program with focus on Civil Engineering, Drafting or Surveying.
Desired Qualifications:
You will be successful if you have the following experience, skills, and abilities:
Coursework in CAD, drafting, surveying or civil engineering
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
An independent problem solver
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Experience with AutoCAD/Civil 3D drafting

Additional Information
The full salary range for this position is $27.36 - $29.46 per hour.

Internship Duration and Hours: Year-long: The timeframe of this internship will be one year in duration, with either a May (semester schools) or June (quarter schools) 2026 start date. Working hours are up to 40 per week during the summer, and a max of 20 per week during the academic year.
Hybrid Work: The City has the expectation that interns will be readily available to report to onsite at work in Seattle in accordance with the current Mayoral mandate of a minimum of 3 days per week. Additional in-person work requirements are based on business need and determined by the hiring authority.
Interns must have a Washington State address and live in Washington State at the time of hire and for the duration of their employment.
Benefits: Interns do not receive benefits but can obtain a subsidized ORCA pass and accrue sick time that can be used after 90 days of employment.
