Job Specifications

You will support the Biomedical Scientists by performing a wide variety of laboratory tasks. Support requirements vary between departments which include the sorting, preparation, processing and handling of blood, urine, tissue and bodily fluids.

You should have an interest in science, be self-confident and motivated. You must possess a wide range of skills demonstrating good numeracy and literacy, a high standard of verbal and written English, keyboard data entry skills and attention to detail.

You will be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time whilst preparing samples and inputting data, therefore the ability to multi-task and work flexibly are essential. This role will require support of stores and deliveries during holiday, short staffing and sickness periods. This will involve manual handling of possible heavy goods.

Your shifts will be set within a shift system and there will be a requirement to work evenings, weekends and bank holidays on rotation with other team members. Plans for a 24/7 rota in under progress.

Please note this is a two stage interview process which includes an assessment session which if successful will lead to an interview on another set date.

NB HCPC portfolios CANNOT be supported in this area as there is insufficient exposure to the main Laboratory. There is NO automatic progression in this role. Please make sure you have read and understood the job requirement before applying.

Your Duties Will Include

Sample preparation - Identification checks & barcode labelling
Data entry - Inputting patient data correctly onto the laboratory computer system
Reception duties - Face to face and telephone queries from service users
Housekeeping duties
Clerical duties - photocopying, filing and scanning.
Participate in quality & audit work
