Location: Hybrid —3 days onsite per week in the Princeton, NJ area.

Role Type: Contract (W-2) — 6 months with possible extension

Job Description

We are seeking a Network Engineer to support enterprise network infrastructure initiatives within a highly regulated environment. This role is responsible for the full system lifecycle of network technologies — from design and implementation through ongoing operations and optimization.

On a day-to-day basis, the Network Engineer will provide advanced troubleshooting support, contribute to network architecture and lifecycle planning, and collaborate with internal stakeholders to deliver reliable and secure network solutions. This position plays a critical role in maintaining uptime, improving performance, and supporting long-term technology roadmaps.

The ideal candidate is hands-on, technically strong across Cisco-based environments, and comfortable operating in an enterprise setting that emphasizes documentation, change control, and operational excellence.

Duties and Responsibilities

Provide daily operational support and resolution of escalated network tickets
Perform proactive maintenance and break-fix activities
Design, configure, test, and implement LAN and network solutions
Support on-prem and cloud networking environments
Maintain and enhance existing network infrastructure portfolios
Develop and support lifecycle plans and technology roadmaps
Analyze business requirements and translate them into network solutions
Validate new network requests against existing architecture standards
Identify opportunities for automation and process improvement
Develop and maintain architecture standards, policies, and procedures
Ensure solutions comply with security, QA, and regulatory requirements
Participate in root cause analysis and recommend corrective actions
Maintain service levels and operational documentation

Required Experience / Skills

6+ years of experience as a Network Engineer or Network Architect
Strong hands-on experience with at least three of the following:
Cisco Switches
Cisco Routers
Cisco Firewalls
F5 Load Balancers
Cisco Wireless Controllers
Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE)
Cisco Network Access Control (NAC)
2–3+ years of network operations support and troubleshooting experience
Experience translating business and technical requirements into network designs
Exposure to network architecture principles and lifecycle planning
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Ability to work onsite in a hybrid environment

Nice-to-Haves

Experience with scripting or infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Ansible)
Cisco certifications (CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, CCDA, CCT)
Experience with cloud networking (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS)
Knowledge of directory services (DNS, AD, LDAP)
Experience with ServiceNow, SolarWinds, or CMDB tools
Background supporting utility or highly regulated environments
ITIL or process-driven enterprise experience

Education

Bachelor’s degree preferred

Additional years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree

Pay & Benefits Summary

Pay Rate: $52.96/hr (W-2)
