Location - Downtown Toronto (Hybrid - 4 days office and 1 day remote)
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer to join our team and develop, maintain, and enhance and/or build new API components. This is a hands-on role, focused on delivering high-quality solutions using Spring Boot, Java, as well as designing, developing, and enhancing existing and new microservices. The ideal candidate has deep technical expertise, a collaborative spirit, and experience working with Java Spring Boot Microservices.
Your future duties and responsibilities
Develop and maintain backend services using Java, Spring Boot, and RESTful APIs.
Architect scalable, high performance applications aligned with business needs.
Collaborate with partners and stakeholders to deliver effective technical solutions.
Build new features, perform testing, and support integration across systems.
Troubleshoot issues, support incident management, and perform root cause analysis.
Implement CI/CD pipelines, automation, and enterprise development practices.
Maintain clear technical documentation and contribute to code reviews.
Mentor junior developers and promote a collaborative, inclusive team culture.
Prototype new technologies and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications To Be Successful In This Role
5+ years of experience delivering enterprise grade applications using Java/J2EE, with a strong focus on backend, API, and full stack development.
3+ years of hands on experience building applications with Spring, Spring Boot, Spring Test, and Hibernate, including RESTful API design, scalability, performance, and security.
Experience designing and maintaining relational databases, including complex SQL, stored procedures, and performance optimization in MS SQL and Oracle.
Experience with distributed caching technologies (e.g., REDIS, Hazel cast) to improve performance and scalability.
Hands on experience with application security and vulnerability management including tools such as SonarQube and Veracode.
Experience deploying and supporting applications in Microsoft Azure, using CI/CD pipelines, and owning deployment verification and production readiness.
Strong experience working in Agile/Scrum teams, delivering clean, modular, testable, and maintainable code.
Experience with modern development and collaboration tools, including GitHub, Maven, IntelliJ IDEA/Visual Studio/Eclipse, JIRA, and Confluence.
Demonstrated ability to analyze requirements, troubleshoot complex issues across the stack, and deliver high quality, pragmatic solutions
Nice to Have
Familiarity with Agile delivery and collaboration tools such as JIRA, JTMF and Confluence.
Exposure to AI assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) to improve developer productivity and code quality.
Working knowledge of cloud platforms such as Azure and/or GCP, and CI/CD tools including Jenkins.
Understanding of secure application development practices, including static code analysis and vulnerability scanning tools.
Knowledge of web protocols and standards, including HTTP/HTTPS, REST principles, and OAuth2/OpenID Connect (OIDC).
Working knowledge in Domain Driven Design.
Experience working in Payments Platform.
Knowledge of Kafka.
Familiarity with DevOps tools – Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Salt, etc.
Knowledge of HTTP/HTTPS protocol and TCP/IP networking
Experience working with Domain Driven Design.
CGI is providing a reasonable estimate of the pay range for this role. The determination of this range includes factors such as skill set level, geographic market, experience and training, and licenses and certifications. Compensation decisions depend on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $95,000–$145,000. This role is an existing vacancy.
