About the Job you are considering:

We are looking for a Back End Engineer to join our Personal Investor Product Technology team.You will help design build and support modern cloud native backend services that power the UK Personal Investor platform enabling customers to invest manage accounts and interact with Vanguard products in a secure and reliable way. This role focuses on backend engineering API development cloud deployment automation and production grade reliability operating in a regulated financial services environment

Hybrid working:

The places that you work from day to day will vary according to your role, your needs, and those of the business; it will be a blend of Company offices, client sites, and your home; noting that you will be unable to work at home 100% of the time.

Your Role:

Strong experience in backend development using Java preferably Spring Spring Boot
Experience designing and building REST APIs and backend services
Experience working in cloud environments ideally AWS
Familiarity with microservices architecture and distributed systems concepts
Experience with CICD pipelines and automated deployments
Strong understanding of automated testing practices JUnit integration testing etc
Strong communication skills and ability to work in collaborative Agile teams
Preferred Skills
Experience with AWS services such as ECS Lambda S3 DynamoDB RDS IAM CloudWatch
InfrastructureasCode experience CloudFormationTerraform
Experience with containerisation and orchestration Docker KubernetesECS
Experience with observability tools Splunk Datadog CloudWatch ELK
Knowledge of eventdriven architecture Kafka SNSSQS
Financial services investment platform exposure ISA pensions funds trading onboarding workflows
Experience working in highly regulated environments
Design and develop scalable backend applications and RESTful APIs supporting personal investor journeys
Build and maintain microservices using modern backend frameworks eg Java Spring Boot
Deliver new platform features by translating business requirements into clean maintainable technical solutions
Ensure services are designed for performance resilience and long-term scalability
Build and deploy applications using an AWS cloud stack
Contribute to InfrastructureasCode practices using tools such as CloudFormation or Terraform equivalent
Support cloud-based application operations including logging monitoring alerting and performance tuning
Contribute to automated pipelines enabling continuous integration and continuous deployment
Improve developer productivity through automation and tooling
Ensure deployments follow best practices for secure release and operational readiness
Testing Quality Engineering
Write and maintain automated tests unit integration regression
Ensure quality gates are met before release into production
Participate in code reviews and uphold engineering best practices
Collaboration Agile Delivery
Work closely with product owners architects QA engineers and other developers to deliver iterative product improvements
Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning daily standups and retrospectives
Provide support during production incidents and contribute to root cause analysis and continuous improvement
Ensure applications meet internal security standards and comply with financial services regulations
Apply secure coding principles and contribute to risk mitigation activities
