Location: Hybrid – Toronto, ON (3 days onsite)

Role Overview

Seeking a Data Engineer to support Enterprise Stress Testing initiatives, including modernization and optimization of Python-based data workflows. The role will focus on improving performance of data-intensive notebooks, enhancing scalability and maintainability, and developing data ingestion and consolidation solutions to support stress testing and credit risk analytics.

Key Responsibilities

Design and develop data solutions to integrate new data sources into the stress testing platform
Refactor and optimize existing Python notebooks to improve runtime and efficiency
Develop Python code to source, transform, and consolidate data from multiple upstream systems
Improve code structure, readability, and long-term maintainability
Ensure outputs are reliable and well-documented for downstream analytics and reporting
Collaborate with stakeholders to validate data requirements and outputs
Provide documentation and knowledge transfer to support sustainability

Required Qualifications

2+ years of experience working with large datasets and complex transformations
2+ years of hands-on Python experience, including performance optimization (e.g., pandas tuning, algorithmic improvements)
1+ year of experience integrating data from multiple systems (files, databases, APIs)
Familiarity with writing clean, maintainable, and testable code
Bachelor’s degree required

Nice to Have

Experience with PySpark, Dask, Airflow, or similar data engineering tools
Strong SQL skills and experience with relational or cloud data warehouses
Experience transitioning notebook workflows into production-ready pipelines
Exposure to credit risk, IFRS 9, AIRB, or stress testing environments

Soft Skills

Ability to work independently and deliver within defined objectives
Strong communication skills
Comfortable working in ambiguous or evolving environments
