Job Specifications

Senior Software Engineer - Manchester (hybrid) - £70,000–£80,000 + Equity

I’ve partnered with a well-backed, Manchester-based applied AI firm looking to strengthen their technical capability as they continue scaling their enterprise platform.

The team builds and deploys enterprise-grade systems used within industrial environments (manufacturing, automotive and similar sectors), where reliability, performance and real-world constraints genuinely matter.

They operate in the AI / Machine Learning space (with Computer Vision forming part of the wider product), but this is first and foremost a software engineering hire.

You’ll be working across the stack:

Modern JS frontends (React) used by customers and internal teams
Python backend services powering core platform functionality and AI-driven systems
Deployment into cloud, edge, and customer environments
Integration work, upgrades, and continuous improvement of live production systems
Direct involvement in enterprise implementations and technical client discussions

This role would really suit a senior or lead-level engineer who:

Has around 8+ years commercial engineering experience
Is genuinely full stack (frontend + backend)
Has worked on enterprise-grade platforms or large-scale implementations
Enjoys owning systems rather than handing work off
Is comfortable working directly with customers on deployments and integrations
Thinks in terms of delivery, trade-offs and pragmatism rather than theory
Is happy mentoring a team technically and raising engineering standards

You don’t need to be an AI-whizz, but you must be comfortable working in an AI product environment: understanding how models go live into production, how they’re wrapped in backend services, supported and monitored, and what enterprise clients can expect pre- and post-implementation.

This role wouldn’t be suitable for someone coming purely from a data science or research background. The focus here is shipping software, improving systems, and iterating under real-world constraints.

You’ll have a lot of autonomy, real influence over how systems are built, and the chance to work on technically interesting problems that actually get used. There’s also an expectation that you help raise engineering quality around you, support other engineers, and contribute to a strong, practical engineering culture.

Please note, this role cannot offer visa / sponsorship now or in the future.
