About the role
About us

This is an exciting time to join Hillingdon Best Start Family Hubs and Children’s Centres. We are expanding our Parenting and Home Learning Environment (HLE) offer to ensure parents are supported as their children’s first and most influential educators, helping every child to have the best possible start in life.

Our ambition is to improve early learning outcomes across the borough and to support more children to achieve a Good Level of Development (GLD) by the end of the Early Years Foundation Stage. By joining us, you will play a key role in delivering high‑quality, evidence‑based home learning and language support that makes a real difference for children and families.

The role

Hillingdon recognises parents and carers as children’s first and most influential educators. We are seeking a skilled and passionate Home Learning and Language Coordinator to strengthen early language, communication and learning outcomes for children aged 0–5 across Hillingdon.

This role works directly with families, Family Hubs, community partners, early years providers and schools to deliver and coordinate evidence‑based Home Learning Environment (HLE) and speech, language and communication (SLC) programmes, ensuring consistent, high‑quality practice across the borough. You will play a key role in supporting children to achieve a Good Level of Development (GLD) by age five, with a strong focus on inclusion, early intervention and partnership working.

Key Responsibilities

Coordinate and directly deliver evidence‑based home learning and early language programmes. Significant experience working with young children and families in early years or early help settings, with a strong focus on speech, language and home learning.
Support parents and carers with practical strategies, resources and confidence to create language‑rich home learning environments.
Lead the borough‑wide implementation of the WellComm Toolkit, including practitioner training, monitoring and early intervention, with a focus on disadvantaged areas and settings with lower GLD outcomes.
Work closely with schools, early years providers, speech and language therapists, health visitors and community partners to ensure joined‑up pathways for families.
Engage families who are less likely to access services, including those with SEND, EAL and from diverse cultural backgrounds, using flexible and creative outreach approaches.
Guide, coach and train practitioners across education, health and community settings to embed consistent, high‑quality HLE and language practice.
Monitor participation, outcomes and impact using validated tools, contributing to service improvement and performance reporting.
Promote services through outreach, networks and digital platforms to maximise reach and engagement.

About You

You will bring:

Significant experience working with young children and families in early years or early help settings, with a strong focus on speech, language and home learning.
Proven experience of delivering or coordinating early years, parenting or language‑focused programmes.
Confidence working with families of children with SEND and EAL, and an understanding of inclusive practice.
Strong knowledge of child development and the EYFS, particularly early communication and language.
The ability to train, coach and influence practitioners across multi‑agency settings.
Excellent communication, organisation and partnership‑working skills.
A commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity and resident‑focused services.
