Our client is looking for a Business Unit Controller for an 18-month contract. The role will require working in office, in North York, 1 day a week. Job #: 471562

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Overview:

Working with the Divisional Business Controller and Business Vice President, act as the key financial resource for all aspects of the assigned businesses.
Provide financial and business analysis support and advice to the business.
Coordinate financial planning, including development of quarterly forecasts, annual business plan, and long term financial profitability of the business.
Monitor and analyze monthly operating results against plan.
Work collaboratively with Plant Operations and Sales & Marketing across the business to identify and understand strategic business requirements and priorities.
Be the financial lead for SIOP (Sales, Inventory, and Operations Planning) activities.
Recognize implications and relationships among problems or issues, understand how seemingly unrelated elements fit together.

Month End Close & Financial Reporting & Analysis:

Responsible for assisting with the timely and accurate month-end close.
Ensure that the Profit & Loss statements and Balance Sheet accounts are accurate and conform to IFRS.
Identify process improvement opportunities.
Prepare monthly and quarterly reports which highlight and explain significant variances between actual results and Plan for the businesses.
Prepare specific analyses and explanations for the business including: customer sales volume and price, supply and production volume, sourcing mix cost, plant fixed costs, logistics (freight and distribution costs), and other analyses as required
Prepare monthly and quarterly presentation for the Business Team summarizing results and key variances.
Assist the Corporate Finance team with quarterly audit requirements.

Quarterly & Annual Planning:

Lead and prepare the Annual Plan and Quarterly Outlooks processes for the Ultrapure business.
Develop inventory standard costs from plan assumptions.
Prepare analysis of key business drivers and initiatives contained in the Annual Plan and Quarterly Outlooks against benchmarks.
Assess Annual Plan and Quarterly Outlook preparation and analysis processes and make recommendations for improvement.
Summarize outlook and plan in quarterly and annual presentation files for the Leadership Team.
Present aspects of the Outlooks and Plan to the Business Team and Senior Management
Upload detailed Annual Plan into SAP for use by Business and other teams

Special Projects & Ad hoc Analysis:

Assist in special projects and conduct ad hoc analyses of various initiatives.
Assess the profitability and return of new business opportunities and capital investment decisions. Prepare long term profitability models.
Identify areas for process improvements and streamlining of activities.

Minimum Position Qualifications/Requirements:

Accounting Designation Preferred, MBA an asset
University Degree
5 + years of financial experience in a multi-site manufacturing environment
Extensive experience with SAP (or other ERP system) and strong MS Office skills
Strong oral and written communication skills, initiative and ability to multi-task
Good time management skills, enabling completion of responsibilities within deadlines.
Strong Interpersonal and teamwork skills
Ability to lead and coordinate across multiple functions
