We are a growing mental health startup dedicated to transforming the way people approach their mental well-being through AI-powered solutions. Our goal - to help make mental health more accessible, reaching those who say "mental health" isn't for me.

Finding the right fit

We’re seeking a true innovator - someone who doesn’t just execute but envisions, builds, and steers. This isn’t a ‘maintenance’ role; it’s a high-impact leadership position for a CTO who thrives in early-stage product development and wants to shape something from the ground up.
You should have a strong entrepreneurial spirit, not just in mindset but in execution.
That means:
Making product decisions with limited data
Moving fast while ensuring long-term scalability
Balancing vision with hands-on execution—you’ll be building, leading, and iterating in real-time
Challenging norms and pushing of AI-driven mental health tech to new spaces.

This is an opportunity to own the technology roadmap and strategy while working alongside a founder who’s deeply invested in creating something transformative. If you’re excited about leading innovation in a high-growth, high-impact space, we want to talk.

Role overview:
As our Chief Technology Officer (CTO), you will be responsible for shaping and executing the technical vision for our mental health app. You’ll lead the development of the MVP, integrating AI technologies, and overseeing product development to ensure the app is scalable, secure, and user-friendly. In the early stages, you will play a hands-on role in coding, development, and team management, with the opportunity to build a strong technical foundation for the company.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & strategy:
Define the overall technical vision and strategy for the app, aligning with the company’s goals and mission.
Lead, mentor, and grow a small technical team, ensuring they have the support and direction they need to succeed.
Make high-level architectural decisions and manage technical roadmaps, balancing short-term needs and long-term scalability.

Product development:
Lead the development of the MVP, ensuring timely delivery of core features that address user needs.
Oversee the full-stack development, from front-end to back-end, ensuring a seamless and efficient product experience.
Integrate AI-powered features, such as chatbots, personalised mental health recommendations, and data analysis tools.

AI/ML implementation:
Lead the AI/ML development efforts, selecting the right tools and technologies for the product.
Oversee the training and integration of AI models, ensuring the algorithms are personalised, ethical, and effective for users.
Continuously monitor and improve AI performance, leveraging data insights to optimise user experience.

Mobile App development:
Oversee the development of the mobile app (iOS/Android), ensuring it’s optimised for user experience and functionality.
Ensure the app is scalable and able to handle increased traffic as the user base grows.

DevOps & infrastructure:
Manage the app’s infrastructure, including hosting, security, and data storage, ensuring high availability, scalability, and compliance.
Set up and manage CI/CD pipelines, and ensure automated testing and deployment processes.

Collaboration & stakeholder management:
Work closely with the CEO and other key stakeholders to define product features and translate them into technical requirements.
Collaborate with clinical experts to ensure the app’s content is evidence-based and clinically sound.
Provide regular updates on progress, challenges, and opportunities to the leadership team.

Technical hiring:
Lead the recruitment and hiring of additional technical team members as the company scales, ensuring the team is built with the right skills and values.
Build a collaborative, agile, and innovative culture within the technical team.

Compliance & ethical oversight:
Ensure the app complies with relevant health data regulations (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR) and best practices in user data security and privacy.
Oversee ethical considerations for AI models, ensuring they are transparent, non-biased, and sensitive to mental health contexts.

Experience

5+ years in technical leadership roles (e.g. CTO, Head of Engineering) at a startup or growth-stage tech company.
Strong hands-on experience in full-stack software development, AI/ML technologies, and mobile app development.
Proven track record of delivering scalable, secure, and high-performance software products.
Experience in building or scaling consumer-facing mobile applications (iOS/Android).
Previous experience in the mental health/health space or with AI-driven applications is a plus, but not required.

Skills

Proficiency in front-end and back-end programming languages (e.g., JavaScript, Python, Ruby, Node.js).
Strong understanding of AI/ML tools, frameworks, and algorithms.
Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) and DevOps tools.
Familiarity with data privacy and security regulations (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR).
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think strategically while executing on the details.
Strong leadership, team-building, and mentoring abilities.
Exceptional communication skills to engage with non-technical stakeholders and customers.

Personal attributes

Passionate about mental health and improving well-being through technology.
Highly motivated, hands-on, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, early-stage startup environment.
Strong work ethic, with the ability to balance multiple priorities.

Why join us?:
Opportunity to lead the technical development of an innovative mental health app that makes a meaningful impact.
Work in a collaborative, mission-driven team that values creativity and innovation.
