Job Specifications

We are a UK-based space-tech start-up building next-gen space systems to provide safe, sustainable, and affordable satellite operations for the in-space economy. The company has received multiple contracts from the UK Space Agency and the European Space Agency to build and deploy AI-based satellite rendezvous proximity operations (RPO) technology and is set to demonstrate the innovation in space by 2025. Lúnasa is also backed by world-class Deep-Tech investors.

Recently, we've started building the future of intelligent document understanding. Our platform uses cutting-edge AI to extract insights from engineering tools and diagrams to automate engineering documentation workflows.

We're looking for a Software Engineer who can work across the stack, building scalable AI-driven backends, interactive user applications, and supporting quality assurance and deployment.

About the Role
As a Software Engineer, you’ll help design, build, and deploy AI-powered applications from scratch. You’ll collaborate closely with the founder and the product team to turn innovative ideas into production-ready systems. This is a hands-on role with broad responsibility across backend development, testing, and DevOps.

Responsibilities
· Build and maintain backend services for AI document processing and question answering
· Develop interactive user applications (web-based UI or simple apps)
· Integrate AI models (LLMs, OCR, Search) into production pipelines
· Write clean, tested, and scalable Python code
· Optimize performance and troubleshoot production issues
· Set up and manage cloud deployments and CI/CD pipelines

Requirements
· 3+ years of professional experience in software engineering
· Strong proficiency in Python (data processing, backend development)
· Hands-on experience with AI/ML workflows (e.g., model inference, embedding search, OCR)
· Good understanding of REST APIs, backend frameworks, and web application architecture
· Familiarity with cloud-based deployment (AWS, Azure, GCP, or equivalent)
· Experience writing tests and automating QA workflows
· Strong problem-solving and debugging skills
· Ability to work independently and prioritize effectively in a startup environment

Nice to Have (Bonus Points)
· Experience with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Hugging Face, Anthropic, etc.)
· Familiarity with vector databases (LanceDB, FAISS, Pinecone)
· Experience with document OCR libraries (EasyOCR, Tesseract, or similar)
· Exposure to MLOps and model deployment best practices
· Basic frontend development experience (React, Gradio, or similar tools)
· Knowledge of deep graph learning or chart analysis is a plus

What We Offer
· Competitive salary based on experience
· Huge opportunity for growth and technical leadership
· Exposure to real-world AI applications and next-gen technologies
· Collaborative, no-bureaucracy startup culture
