To work together with the Superintendent radiographer to ensure the provision of a high-quality service by the MRI department at the Harefield Hospital. 85% of our work is providing cardiac MRI scans to a busy primary angioplasty and advanced heart failure/ cardiothoracic transplant centre.
To promote and maintain the highest standards of patient care within the trust.
Take responsibility in the MRI unit as and when required.
To be part of a team continually committed to improving the service to patients and promoting the hospital nationally and internationally.
To participate in extended hours duties as required as per service needs
Main duties of the job
To train radiographers and undergraduate radiographers in the use of MRI scanning equipment, and in MRI scanning techniques and procedures.
To communicate appropriately with patients, relatives and other members of staff.
To use tact and sensitivity when asking personal questions, for example checking pregnancy status before examinations.
To reassure and explain to patients who concerns regarding claustrophobia in order may have to gain their cooperation.
To train radiographers and visiting doctors in the use of MR scanning equipment, and CMR scanning techniques
The post holder will maintain good working relationships with multidisciplinary team within the CMR Department and the hospital.
To participate in the continuing development programme for all staff.
To undertake scanning procedures within the MRI unit, in particular Cardiac MRI Scans.
To assess MRI scans for quality and for clinical significance and to take appropriate action where necessary.
To carry out IV cannulation for the purpose of administering Magnetic Resonance contrast agents.
To initiate and assist in patient resuscitation in an emergency.
To move into position, load and operate the power injector when required
To operate the patient monitoring equipment when required.
To clear up after biological or other spills in accordance with the Trust's infection control policy.
To use initiative and judgement in the prioritising of workload, taking into account multiple clinical factors.

Main tasks and responsibilities
Communication
To train radiographers and undergraduate radiographers in the use of MRI scanning equipment, and in MRI scanning techniques and procedures.
To assist and supervise the IV cannulation training in the MRI unit.
To advise others concerning MRI safety issues.
To liaise with other departments/wards within the hospital and various external sources in order to provide a quality service to patients and clinicians.
To communicate appropriately with patients, relatives and other members of staff.
To explain procedures and reassure patients in order to gain their cooperation. There can often be barriers to understanding to overcome, and patients are often very anxious and require persuasion before and during a procedure.
To use tact and sensitivity when asking personal questions, for example checking pregnancy status before examinations.
To reassure and explain to patients who concerns regarding claustrophobia in order may have to gain their cooperation.
To assist the Superintendent Radiographer in liaising with engineers, and medical physics, and reorganising of workload when equipment malfunctions.
To train radiographers and visiting doctors in the use of MR scanning equipment, and CMR scanning techniques.
To welcome and assist visitors to the CMR Department.
The post holder will maintain good working relationships with multidisciplinary team within the CMR Department and the hospital.
To liaise with other departments/wards within the hospital and various external sources in order to provide a quality service to patients and clinicians.
To participate in the continuing development programme for all staff.
To participate weekend lists when required.
Patient/customer care (both direct and indirect).
To undertake scanning procedures within the MRI unit, in particular Cardiac MRI Scans.
To be responsible for the image post processing and volumetric analysis to be included in the final report by the accountable physician.
To undertake procedures as part of research projects.
To liaise with MRI medical staff in the planning of investigations.
To position and manipulate patients into the correct positions to undertake MRI examinations.
