Sector: Financial Services experience is a must
Contract Type: 6–12 months (potential for extension)

About the Role:

We are seeking a hands-on Data Governance Consultant to establish and implement a fit-for-purpose data governance framework within our firm. This is a Greenfield opportunity—you’ll be instrumental in shaping the foundation of our data governance approach, tailored to the unique needs of a small to mid-sized financial services firm.

You’ll work closely with business stakeholders, legal, compliance, and data owners to define and embed governance practices aligned with UK GDPR, industry best practices, and our regulatory reporting needs. This is not a role for someone who prefers an “ivory tower” approach—we need someone who can roll up their sleeves, drive adoption, and deliver practical, scalable solutions.

Key Responsibilities:
Lead the design and implementation of a data governance framework, using input from existing governance models across the business.
Identify, adapt, and adopt appropriate elements from existing business practices and translate them into fit-for-purpose solutions for our client.
Define and document data governance policies, procedures, roles, and responsibilities—including data ownership and stewardship models.
Embed UK GDPR compliance into the governance structure, with clear accountability for data items and usage.
Work cross-functionally with legal, compliance, and business users to ensure buy-in and adoption across the organisation.
Support the selection or integration of data governance tools as needed.
Drive data quality, lineage, and metadata practices that align with regulatory requirements (including regulatory reporting).
Educate and support staff at all levels to build governance awareness and culture.
Ensure solutions are lightweight, maintainable, and appropriate to the firm’s size and maturity level.

Requirements:
Proven experience delivering data governance frameworks in financial services, ideally within a small to mid-sized organisation.
Deep understanding of UK GDPR, data privacy, and governance principles.
Hands-on experience implementing data ownership, stewardship, and role-based governance models.
Strong understanding of regulatory reporting requirements and compliance obligations related to data.
Familiarity with trade data and market data governance.
Experience working closely with business functions to gather requirements and embed practical governance solutions.
Knowledge of data governance tools and documentation methods.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills; ability to drive adoption and simplify complexity.
Self-starter with the confidence to lead in a Greenfield environment.
