The role

As a Cloud FinOps Engineer, you will play a crucial role in driving financial efficiency and transparency across our AWS platform, directly contributing to our company's growth and sustainability. You will help build out the RWE Supply & Trading (RWEST) FinOps practice on the foundations already in place, focusing on rate and workload optimization, dashboarding, and documentation. We aim to elevate the FinOps culture within the organization, creating KPIs to enable benchmarking and assisting teams with budgeting and forecasting.

Your Responsibilities

Optimization & Analytics

Rate and workload optimization
RI and SP recommendations and purchases
Analysis of usage costs to identify trends and potential savings
Identifying and combining data sources to enhance findings and recommendations

FinOps Culture and Education

Building and maintaining the FinOps culture in RWEST
Creating educational material to help RWEST understand and maximize FinOps
Defining FinOps best practices

Financial Monitoring and Reporting

Implementing financial monitoring to detect anomalies
Creating reports as required by both App and finance teams

Collaboration and Support

Building relationships with both the App and finance teams to help them understand cloud spend
Promoting transparency, openness, and knowledge sharing within the team
Providing support to other team members and troubleshooting day-to-day issues

Your Powerful Skills

Strong understanding of the FinOps framework and its capabilities
Proven track record of cost savings – preferably with AWS
Experience with purchasing Reserved Instances and Saving Plans – AWS
Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with finance, operations, and application teams
Analytical and problem-solving skills to analyse cloud usage data and identify cost optimization opportunities, including budgeting and forecasting
Knowledge of pricing mechanisms and cost models for cloud services
Proactively staying updated with industry trends and innovations

Advantageous, But Not Required

FinOps certification
Membership in the FinOps Foundation
AWS CUDOS dashboards and or AWS QuickSight
Experience with IaC (Terraform)
Experience with Git, managing code check-in, code reviews, and maintaining a standardized repository structure
Experience creating and managing cloud-native CI/CD pipelines
Academic degree in mathematics, computer science, natural science, or a comparable field
Proficiency in spoken and written German
