Senior Data Scientist – Python Migration & Grid Modelling

Location: Brussels (Monnoyer)
Duration: Initially Until 31/12/2025
Part-time: Can vary between 2 or 5 days a week
Setup: Freelance (day rate)

We are seeking a Senior Data Scientist to lead the industrialisation and full Python migration of our existing analytical scripts used in conjunction with DigSilent PowerFactory. This is a high-impact role requiring technical fluency, stakeholder collaboration, and a sharp eye for data integrity.
You will own the development of a robust, modular Python toolchain that replaces legacy scripts, enhances performance, and introduces new features. Key tasks include refactoring code to isolate PowerFactory dependencies, optimising performance for large-scale data, and ensuring input completeness.
You’ll collaborate closely with business experts to automate manual processes, ensuring the solution is scalable and production-ready. Your work will contribute directly to energy grid modelling, integrating new capacity changes based on complex hypotheses.

Key Technologies & Skills:
Python (minimum 5 years’ experience): Efficient, modular, and scalable programming
Advanced Analytics: Handling large datasets with performance in mind
Profiling & Optimisation: Speed and memory efficiency
Documentation & Maintainability: Clear code and user guidance
DigSilent PowerFactory: Integration understanding (desirable)
Electric Power Systems: Basic domain knowledge is a plus

Requirements:
Fluent in English and Dutch or French
Highly organised, autonomous, and deadline-focused
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Valid work and residence permit for Belgium (if non-EU)
