About LessonWise
We’re a disruptive EdTech startup making high-quality tutoring accessible through our AI-enhanced online platform. By blending group and 1:1 lessons with enhanced online learning capabilities, we’ve already onboarded 5,000+ students. Now, we’re doubling down on embedding AI capabilities (e.g., real-time tutoring assistants, automated progress tracking) to revolutionise how students and tutors interact—both inside and outside the virtual classroom.
The Role
As our first in-house technical leader, you’ll spearhead the development of LessonWise’s platform, transitioning from outsourced teams to a hybrid model where you:
Lead the integration of AI features from scratch (e.g., personalised learning recommendations, automated progress tracking, AI capabilities in the virtual classroom to tailor the online group tutoring experience to the individual students).
Manage overseas developers—either optimising our current team or building a new one—to accelerate delivery.
Oversee UX/UI design, either directly or by outsourcing, to align with our pedagogical goals.
This is a hands-on architect role requiring expertise in our stack and a vision for scaling EdTech innovation.
Key Responsibilities
AI Development & Deployment
Architect and build AI-driven features (e.g., NLP for lesson analysis, engagement tracking) using our Node.js/MongoDB/Angular/AWS stack.
Develop tools to personalise group tutoring (e.g., AI assistants, dynamic feedback based on lesson recordings, hyper-relevant student reports).
Platform Leadership
Own end-to-end improvements to our whiteboard framework (BigBlueButton + Meteor/React.js) and core platform.
Integrate third-party tools (Stripe, Twilio, HubSpot) and manage APIs.
Team Management
Manage overseas developers (code reviews, sprint planning) to ship features efficiently.
Recruit or adjust team structure as needed.
UX/UI Oversight
Ensure platform design enhances learning (e.g., intuitive dashboards, progress visualisations).
Lead outsourcing of design work if not hands-on.
Tech Stack (Essential)
Backend: Node.js
Database: MongoDB
Frontend: Angular 10.0.8
Cloud/DevOps: AWS (S3, EC2), CI/CD pipelines
Ideal Candidate
3+ years as a full-stack/backend lead in scalable products (EdTech a plus).
Proven experience building and deploying AI/ML tools (e.g., recommendation engines, analytics).
Strong systems architecture skills and experience managing offshore teams.
