Project Overview:
Our client are seeking an experienced and hands-on GCP Data Engineer to help establish our cloud-based data infrastructure from the ground up. This role is instrumental in building a scalable and secure data platform on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), with a key focus on ingesting and integrating data from SAP systems. You will work closely with stakeholders across IT, finance, supply chain, and operations to ensure reliable and timely access to clean, governed data for analytics and reporting.
Initial 3 month project, we are open to guidance on rate from consultants. Initial IR35 determination is Outside.
Key Responsibilities:
* Design, implement, and maintain a scalable data platform on GCP using services like BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Pub/Sub, and Dataflow.
* Lead the end-to-end ingestion of data from SAP (e.g., ECC, S/4HANA) into GCP.
* Build and maintain robust data pipelines for both batch and real-time processing.
* Define data models and structures in BigQuery to support analytics and business reporting.
* Mentor and support a recent graduate in developing core data engineering skills, ensuring they gain proficiency in delivering clean, efficient datasets and contributing to the creation of impactful dashboards and business insights using tools such as Looker Studio.
* Assist in platform automation, cost optimization, and performance tuning.
* Monitor and troubleshoot ETL jobs, pipelines, and data quality issues.
Required Qualifications:
* 3–5+ years of experience in data engineering, ideally in a cloud environment.
* Proven expertise in Google Cloud Platform (BigQuery, Dataflow, Cloud Functions, Cloud Composer).
* Strong understanding of SAP data structures and experience extracting data from SAP (e.g., using BODS, SLT, SAP Data Services, or APIs).
* Proficiency in SQL, Python, and data modeling.
* Knowledge of data governance, quality, and privacy best practices.
* Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience in manufacturing or supply chain environments.
* Familiarity with Looker, Looker Studio, or other BI platforms.
* Exposure to CI/CD practices and infrastructure-as-code .
